Well, in my opinion it's a bad move but it really just depends on why you want a different car. Do you need a vehicle with better gas mileage? Cheaper insurance? I mean each has its pro's and con's, maybe if you could explain better the reason you're considering a different vehicle.

Is this a general inquiry or do you have specific cars picked out? What is you long term automotive goals? How is yous financial situation? For the RS 2 door or 4 door?
I personally love 2-doors and BugEyes, so which ever was in better shape would be the victor. If the cash is tight the RS would be cheaper on gas and insurance. The WRX has more out there if you wish to mod, but if you want something that's a bit more rare the RS would be the way to go.

I love my RS.
If you plan to Rallycross, you are evenly matched even with the open class cars.(If anyone here knows how to get the CSCC Rally Cross results from the very first Prairie City RX please let me know!)
Autocross you may be at a slight disadvantage if the course isn't very technical
And track days, well whoever invented the straightaway is an idiot IMHO, but its a chance for other$ to pass you. Then when they don't understand how to maintain their momentum in the turns, repass them and wave every lap But I only do Auto/Rallycross so who am I to talk.
I've driven a stock WRX and it wasn't that much better or worse compared to my RS which is lightly modified. I can't speak for lightly modified WRX's. I drove a stock STi too, it was a little better. I really think the RS chassis (no i don't study the technical names ) makes up for it.
I'd say do it! Minivans will outpull you and cut you off before the freeway on ramp from a red light, but thank Cal Trans for the onramp commuter lanes!!! go in hot with an early apex, ride the outside gutter as you pass them, then last 90' and cut inside as the minivan is hardly half way through! Wave to the CHP in the bushes
Welcome to the life of all spark, not even vtak doo!

Yeah.. my WRX is lightly modified.. and getting the RS would basically just be because I like the body style.. my insurance rate would actually jump slightly.. but the WRX is street modified.. so, if I got the RS, I would plan for it to be an all around commuter car.. more directed toward rally, though.. I can pick up the RS for a good price.. but I'd be losing a whole lot more selling the WRX at the price I'm planning to sell it for.. but I do get out of a loan that way..
Like I said.. only reason for the switch is mainly for a fresh car to take a different path.. maybe I should just convert my WRX.. but hmm.. this has been a long thought process.. I've tried selling my car plenty of times, but never mustered up the courage to get rid of it.. it IS my first car..

I have KYB adjustables on mine, I rallycross and autocross with the flick of a dial. I think it works pretty good.
I pay like $150 a month for insurance, insane.

If it's your first car and you don't want to get rid of it, then don't. You'd be losing money opting out of a loan you said, it isn't worth it. If you're bored of the car, I'd suggest changing your steering wheel, suspension, tires, wheels and seats. Then go stage 2(if you haven't done these things already.) Not necessarily all at once, but do that and it will completely transform your car. My 2 cents!

I'm stage 4.. maybe I should change the steering wheel.. lol. Really kind'a just need some opinions.. to keep me from doing it.. all my hard earned cash has gone into it.. I do like the older impreza shell.. but may be just something I pick up in the future.
