Wrong, and wrong. As I said, "African-American" refers to a person of African descent. That does not mean they were born in Africa. Visiting Africa would not make me (nor anyone else) African-American, although in theory an application for citizenship/lawful resident status in an African nation would make me American-African...

Living in America (or at least not in Africa) has no bearing on the correctness of the assumption. Very few African-Americans are born outside of the USA, yet they are still African-American by conventional definition of the term.

People down in Brazil prefer to be called ****** (Nig-ger), being called "black" is an insult to them. Only here in America are the "blacks" crybabys about what they are called. I don't know about you guys, but if I get called a *******, yankee, etc. I could care less. But when somebody uses the correct term for "blacks," which is ****** (Nig-ger), it's all over the news.

So if i was a white man from south africa it would be correct for me to mark "african american" on my financial aid forms and get the same benefits of a black man..??
