HAHAHHAA
yes, but then you have to go to walmart...
we tried to cut grocery costs when dawn was on maternity leave. we tried walmart, winco, and food source. i couldn't stand the other customers so we ditched those ideas. then we tried store brands from bel air and safeway, everything tasted like crap.
we started planning out dinner ideas, making a list, and sticking to the list. that saved us big $$.
note: if you have to throw old food out of your fridge for the new food just purchased, you're doing it wrong...

I was pretty surprised by how much less expensive everything is there. Even wine was cheaper at regular price than Safeway sale prices (by ~$.50/bottle) (vodka looked to be about the same price but Bel-Air has a sale going right now so they're cheaper than walmart).
Based on my big fat spreadsheet, it looks like Safeway consistently beats Walmart in produce costs. I noticed there was only one brand of most vegetables at Wal-Mart, which probably contributed to that, but the cost difference isn't that great (even overall, I think the cost difference would be wiped out by the cost of the gas to drive from Wal-Mart to safeway).
I was worried about doing the shopping at Wal-Mart, but with the exception of this one guy and his monster kid (monster as in uncontrolled and running around slamming in to **** while he goes "come on, son, stop, come on, stop" and does nothing about it) it was all good. They had a bigger selection of the items we normally buy (like on some things they had flavors I'd never even seen before at Bel-Air or Safeway) and since it's a Wal-Mart, everything else I would need for household cleaning, laundry, even socks and undershirts (Haines, son) is all there.
Money in the bank, shorty what ya drank?

i'm too much of a damn snob to shop at anything less than bel air. we've been hitting up the whole foods at arden and eastern, and the nugget in EDH lately. at least if i've got to go out and be around other people, i don't want to be behind them paying with food stamps and asking if their crap is WIC eligeble.
