In a related topic....

I had a dude bring his 2002 WRX rally clone in for a tune.
He did all of his own work: PE V mount FMIC, grounding system, cabin wiring, etc.
Had the same symptoms..pulling a solid -5 degrees of timing.
Tried three different ECMs with no change.
After tightening 5 different grounding straps, there was still no change.

He took the car home & I haven't seen him since.

Mine is -2 degrees from 4800-5200, no matter what. A new ECM comes in this week that he wants to try and see if that's the problem. He put a scope on the motor to listen to see if it was making any unusual noises or what not, that could be causing the problem and he said it sounds smooth, so who knows
