Good reasons not to run red lights in Sac
The following excerpt ran in the Sac Bee's online site:
The best advice in the above quote is actually not trying to 'make the light' by speeding up in the first place.

We wrote last week about people driving without license plates (you're required to have them both front and back) and that law enforcement does pull people over for it. Some of these people are lazy or forgetful. Some are, in fact, criminals who don't want to be identified.
Several readers contacted us to suggest another reason some drivers may choose to leave their front license plate off: So red-light cameras can't identify them.
We checked with California Highway Patrol Sgt. Evan Williams and Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Scott McCartney on that, and both offered good reasons not to do that.
Trying to time a yellow light, and catching a red instead, you are taking not only your life in your hands, you may kill someone else.
Even without a front plate, McCartney said you can still get a red-light ticket. Sacramento officials have been installing cameras that catch both the front and back license plates.

front plates look like azz, especially when its put in a spot that's cut out of the bumper.

Though I've been by a lot of cops, and never got a second look with my temp reg in the window. Maybe ill leave that in there and ditch the front plate again.

I know a cop who targets 'vettes without front plates.
Don't run a red light because I might be coming the other way.
Another reason not to run a front plate is that it makes a nice reflective surface to use for LIDAR.

I don't run a front plate because the law here says 'If the car doesn't have a bracket for a front plate, the vehicle isn't required to run it'
I don't have a bracket for a front plate, unless you count two crudely made screwholes

Why do people care about running front plates?
A. It's the law to do so. Why risk getting stopped and harrassed by CHP or PD because you're not running a front plate? They could pull you for that, then pop your hood, cite you for tint, etc, etc. Besides....
B. Your car isn't a show car. If it is, take off the plate when it's at a show. Otherwise, your car is just a car and the plate is required anyway, so just run it. It's not like running a front plate suddenly halves the value of the car.
Word to that. Have you guys seen that vid where the PT cruiser goes in to an intersection and gets t-boned from the passenger side by a Forester, which sends both cars careening in to some poor dude crossing the street (he was in the crosswalk). I read that both drivers were found at fault as one of the vehicles (I think the Forester) had sped up for a yellow and entered the intersection right as it turned red, and the PT Cruiser had not slowed down for his red light as he knew it was turning green in a second. I hate seeing people run lights and stopsigns - it saves maybe a couple minutes IF you don't have an accident, which could ruin or end your life.

that was one really good thing about being out in oklahoma, you only had to run a front plate if you really wanted to (some people actually did!).
