I purchased a Forerunner 201 GPS trainer to log my bike rides and track my training to get in shape for a couple tri-athalons my buddy and i are doing this summer.
I got it at an REI open box stock sale and when i got it home and charged it, it didn't work (LCD screen wouldn't work). I suspected it may have been a defective return that REI didn't want to claim was defective but it was brand new looking, just the packaging was tattered and beat (looked like old stock). I contacted REI and they said everything sold as Open Box is AS-IS but if i couldn't get anywhere with Garmin directly that they would see if they had any other Open Box Stock at their distribution warehouse to trade it out with.

So I called Garmin Intl directly and spoke with a cool guy there.
I told him what happened and he responded with "Well YOU just purchased it, correct? and it was sold to you as a NEW item?" I told him yes, and he asked for a bit of info and mailed me out a calltag and said he'd see what they could do.

well, UPS just dropped off a Next Day air package with a BRAND NEW Forerunner 201 GPS unit in box.

Garmin gets from me!
they stand behind their product 100% IMO and have excellent customer service!
just thought i'd share about a great company IMO.
