when our electricity went out two Fridays ago, the servers have a dedicated power supply so they were still running, our AC died too, so they shut the servers down.... we all got to go home.

I dont even think thats an option for us.... we have ~20 businesses out here running off this server so if we shut this thing down we're basically shutting down recycle rd. Luckily we have a portable AC for emergencies so it should keep everything sub-critical until the AC guys can come out

we had a portable AC, but our IT guy was way too worried about our server. Everyone's files are all on it. For Texas, Austin, our other So Cal office, and this one. So he shut it down to protect all that. But it was funny, only our office got to go home early, and no one could do anything at any of the other offices.

It's amazing how many people don't have a plan for HVAC failures like this.

Back in the day I worked on a project for a data center (Digital Island). They had their buildings on two power grids plus generators plus battery rooms. The AC was just as redundant.

Yeah its REAL important cause no AC = no server, when i walked in this morning i noticed the fans were 2x as loud as normal & i walked in the server room and it was about 95 degress Luckily we had planned for it & bought that portable AC unit a few weeks ago, we are intalling a generator pretty soon here too.

, if you guys have so many people on your server, have you considered a redundant AC unit maybe? Even NASIOC has additional cooling and those servers are in a dudes basement
