A Father's Day Tale
6yrs ago my father passed way on father's day it left me heart broken and basically changed my life forever.
Fast foward to today I leave my apartment around 1:00PM to go visit my dad's grave in Daly City. I hopped on the 80 doing about 67mph on the slow lane just cruisin like i normally do, traffic was about average around this time no one in front of me, everyone obeying the speed limit. So I come pass the Reed exit going bup that little hill. When all of sudden a chevy pickup truck slams down on its brakes, the ram truck behind slams down its brakes but unfortunally didn't stop in time hits the chevy truck. A blue car that was behind the ram, plows into the back of it followed by a camry and a civic.
Then all of sudden I see a big explosion comming from the camry engine bay, the blue car was now spinnign out of control and ended up in the middle lane, a chrysler mini van that was in the middle lane tried to avoid the blue but started to fishtail and was comming into my lane. (NOTE: all this was happening in a matter of 5 seconds) So basically the van hit the guard rail hard and came to a stop. Now here i am no doing about 50mph comming straight towards the van. Now I'm thinking to myself I'm going to die, this can't be happening to me. I'm going to be leaving my wife and son behind. I slammed on the brakes, but in my mind i knew I wouldn't stop in time.
So here's the layout of the accident (from farthest to closest to me) we got the two trucks off the side of the road by the fastlane in the grass area, the minivan in the slow lane facing the guardrail and taking about half of the lane, the blue car in the middle lane, 2ft back in the fastlane was the camry and civic burning up.
So now knowing I wouldn't stop in time I ***** out made a sharp left passing over the blue car then an extreme hard right avoiding the minivan and basically did a 180 stop about 15ft in front of the minivan facing the opposite direction. I had made it thru, my hands were all shaking as turned off the car thanking the lord every which way I can.
Now I get out off my car, I see the people in the other car closest to the camry running away from it fearing it might explode again the heat was intense. I went over to the minivan to the grandparents and grand daughter. the gradma was fine but the kid was holding her shoulder thinking to myself she probably broke some thing. So I escorted them away frome the vechile and headed back to van to check on grandpa that was driving I asked if he was alright the guy responded my chest hurts and i can't move. I told him my name and I was going to help you out (Good Samartian Law). I told the guy you probably have some broken ribs but everything is gonna be alright.
Now I start to see smoke comming from the engine bay of the mini van. I'm thinking to myself this van is gonna catch on fire soon. So i yelled for help to move this guy out of the car seeing this guy was way larger than me, the two guys from the two trucks came by and help me escort the guy away from the van.
30 seconds later the van caught on fire as we stood and watch the whole thing unfold. The camry was now engulfed in flames the civic was in flames and now the van was in flames. It was so unreal, my hands were shaking violently as i sat down on the hood of my car. 3 mins later CHP, Firefighters and Ambulance all arrived on the scene put out the 3 car fires and help with injured no one was killed, probably the biggest injury was the broken ribs on the grandpa, and I found out that the grand daughter broke her collar bone. I was sucking down oxygen because i was out of breath from the adreline rush i had.
An hour later the CHP Officer question me what had happend gave them my story. After I gave my story the officer I was free to go. I got in my car thank the lord and my dad cause i know dam well he was watching over me and headed on my way.
So that end my father's day tale, sorry for the long story I thought I would share it with you guys just let you know that life is really short and cherish the people around you cause they can be gone just like that.
Thanks
Larry

Larry, that's amazing. You're a really good person, man, and I know your dad would be really proud. I heard about that accident, my parents called me all worried, and I'm glad you're safe.
You've made the world a better place for those people, and I owe you a beer or ten just for being a good damn man.

Wow.
It's stories like this that make me angry at the media.
You are a hero, not Brad Pitt, Rosanne, Mike *******, etc.
You deserve recognition and not the asshats mentioned above.
You done good.

But it's how you react to that situation when you're put into it that shows what kind of person you are, and I'm proud to call people who do the right thing my friends, man.

Man i fealt like I was watching Final Destination 2 when i was reading that story. Well looks like you will be apart of those families stories for years to come, i asure you that the news might not give you recognition or the policeman, but the families of the people you helped will remember you as their hero. Good Job! Good thing no one was killed, and glad you made it out touchless, I guess its true good things happen to good people!

Maybe we would've done the same, maybe not.
That doesn't matter.
What matters, is that when there was a need, you were there to render whatever assistance that you could.
And that speaks volumes about your character.

Larry, everyone involved in this accident have you to thank because they probably would not have survived without your help. Your courage and quick actions deserve to be recognized.
