SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- One person was killed and several others injured in a multi-car crash on Interstate 5 in Sacramento early Sunday.
The crash happened about 1:45 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Garden Highway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Valentino Jauregui, 22, who is suspected of being under the influence, was headed from Woodland to Elk Grove when he lost control of his Honda while trying to pass other traffic. The Honda slammed into the center divide before coming to a stop blocking the two left lanes of the freeway.
Jauregui told officers that he was unable to get the Honda started and told his passenger, Robert Galindo, 22, of Elk Grove, that they should get out of the car.
Jauregui had just stepped out of the car when a Ford Mustang, driven by 24-year-old Juan Cisneros of Woodland, slammed into the Honda. The impact knocked Jauregui unconscious and sent him into the bushes in the center median. Galindo was thrown 30 to 40 feet of the Honda and was killed. Authorities said Cisneros is also suspected of being under the influence.
The driver of a white Nissan Frontier pick-up truck, 21-year-old Juan Gallego, of Woodland, was the next to come upon the crash scene. The Nissan also struck the Honda, went out of control and flipped over.
The driver of a Mercury Topaz, 23-year-old Anthony Eskridge of Sacramento, then slammed into the Honda, veered out of control and came to rest on top of the Nissan pickup.
Authorities said Eskridge is also suspected of being under the influence at the time of the crash and fled the scene. A short time after the crash, police said Eskridge's girlfriend tried to report the Topaz stolen with the Sacramento Police Department. Sacramento police contacted the CHP, who went to Eskridge's home and determined that he was driving the Topaz at the time of crash.
Eskridge was injured in the crash and was taken the UC Davis Medical Center. Authorities said he does not have a driver's license and could face criminal charges.
Cisneros also does not have a driver's license and was arrested for driving under the influence after being treated for minor injuries at the UC Davis Medical Center. A passenger in Cisneros's car, 25-year-old Antonio Hidalgo, of Sacramento, was also taken to the UC Davis Medical Center with moderate injuries.
CHP officials said Jauragui will face criminal charges in connection with the crash once the investigation is complete.
Authorities said Gallego also did not have a driver's license and will be facing charges.

actually, i was just considering the from woodland part.
leave race out of it and you still have a bunch of dumbasses from the same place, possibly under the influence, and crashing in the same spot.
makes ryball's theory sound very strong.

That shxt just boggles the mind. I really don't think that anyone in the accident was connected either. Freakin scary.
And Ed, you're not latino, you're just one of those "brown" kids. Or something.
