Question Coil Overs vs. Springs

There is an obvious price difference. I under stand how each works. But "Why is a coil over set up considered better."

And how does it justify the $1000+ difference.

There's more than can be described in a simple post, but it comes down to adjustability and matching your damping toa specific spring. Very few spring/strut combos are specifically designed together, so a company building a coilover and specifying its spring rates and matching the damping to those specific springs makes a big difference.

You can also adjust height independently of suspension travel, as well as some other benefits like camber adjustment, more wheel clearance, etc.

Because the stock strut wasn't designed for the lowered spring and different rate. It wears the strut out exponentially faster because the strut now "bottoms out" more frequently (more compression). A coilover is basically a full suspension where a spring is quite simply, just a spring. A coilover was designed to function cohesively with the given strut and spring rate/lower whereas a spring has to take the stock suspension parameters into consideration.

Any opinions from the SRIC about the Megan Racing coilovers? ($850 is an insane price for adjustable dampening coilovers with tophats included...) I hear alot of stuff about them, but they came out after I bought my suspension or I would have probably have tried them out...
