CHP Cruiser blasting LIDAR
This morning (approx 0630-0640) on eastbound I-80 after Madison I got a forward LIDAR warning.
I witnessed no GM 3rd brake lights up ahead.
Then I see the CHP cruiser sitting on the shoulder with the car almost perpendicular to traffic. Pressumably to use a handhald LIDAR gun out of the drivers window. Parking lights only (it was still dark).
I changed up my profile to reduce identification in case I became a person of interest.

I caught a blast up here in the northbay about 2 weeks ago. Its the first one i have picked up since i was on my way to vegas on the 5. I think occasionally one officer or another gets the LIDAR gun but i dont think they are in full effect yet.
COuple things i have found out in my mission of defeating LIDAR, is it needs something to reflect off of i.e. front license plate, chromed headlights, chromed bumpers. Either it wants a flat surface or a reflective surface. Its not the only reason i painted my headlights, but it was def thought of when i was doing the whole process.
So take of your front plate, an paint your headlights and you should be ok. The shape of our cars is an advantage because LIDAR needs a solid front end to bounce off of, trucks, vans, and your average cars are more susceptible to being picked up.
Now by no means are any of these bullet proof, but they help...

I already run a front plate to reduce my chances of being stopped.
I wonder if projector style headlamps are more or less effective at returning the IR signal compared to reflector models.
Doesn't matter. I have a front plate. Fat JDM fogs and OEM reflector headlights. I'm done if they want to aim it at me. Unless I run a bank of IR floods 24/7.

The front license plate issue brings up a question: what about those hinged front plate mounts that allow the plate to swing back to allow better airflow (I assume that's the reason)? Are those legal or will CHP or other leo's make you "fix it"?

I saw at least one car there with that @ the Davis meet. I might take my chances. Especially since my wife's LEO & my plates are "restricted"
