Breathalyzer before turning the key?
Volvo is researching the concept. Seem like a good but questionable idea to me. If you read the article it makes it seem like it only works if you decide to buckle yourself in? Am I reading that correctly?
So if you are drunk the only way you'll be able to start your car would be to not buckle yourself in? Which can be good if it means your drunk *** will be launched through the windshield with certain death. Finally, a car company researching the idea to give relaxed-bodied drunk drivers a better chance at death upon impact should they chose to take another life!
But if it does work this way I could foresee frivolous lawsuits from drivers that got into an accident on their way to the ER, or got attacked by a rapist in a parking lot because they couldn't get off the line fast enough. Hard to say. Unfortunately, I also foresee people linking this idea to the patriot act if it becomes a mandatory feature in automobiles

Hmmm....I wonder if Volvo is going to use RC51's man bits in the final version.
I can imagine a beautiful V70 R with a rubber ******* that you have to blow into to get the car to start.
Well, I mean, not being gay, I can almost picture it.
I don't like this can of worms.
If a person gets behind the wheel of car equiped with one of these thingys and it malfunctions, allowing the driver to drive off & kill some one, Volvo would be at fault.

if you use that as your standard for level of competence to opperate a high speed vehicle for an entire nation, then no wonder we have so many accidents...come on!
These devices already exist, and are installed on repeat DUI offender's cars.
