Bought a new computer
werd!
i dig the new gen of macs...
i work off both...
15.2" Dell Inspiron 6000 for daily activities and home capability
and a 20" G5 1.8 iMac w/ 1.5GB RAM...beautiful machine!
yeah it's a mac and it takes some getting uset to the quirks...
but nothing like XP...
i haven't gone to Tiger yet but jag works just fine IMO.
i've heard the dashboard in tiger is pretty cool though...
but just watch for rogue fonts...i had mine disolve because of a corrupt font...
if you do graphic design and deal w/ a large amount of fonts, you should def look into Extensis Suitcase...the best appication evAr!!!
fontbook suX0rz X eleventy billion!!
congrats on the purchase...
i'd like to eventually replace the dell w/ a powerbook, but i think i will wait for the new chipset to launch (equivalent to G5) in the next couple years.

Congratulations on the new purchase. I might have to switch to Mac in teh near future if I decide to pursue a graphic design degree at CSUS. Good thing I have a Josh with the skills.
I had a Mac for a little while, sold it for more that I paid for it. Only turned it on once.

My real problem with the Mac is I don't have any connections for w@r3Z! That and they don't port a lot of the major games over to MAC. I know they do some, but not the ones I play. I have no other problem with them, they certainly look cool these days especially some of those big *** monitors they are selling.

Nick and other Mac buffs,
What is the best means of protection? Spyware, Anti-Virus, etc?
This thing is smooth so far. I really like it!

Well that's an incentive if i've ever heard one. Are there any though? I may slap on anti-virus program to be safe. But if you think it's not needed then i'm cool with that.
I honestly can't remember. I think Norton makes some software.
I don't even bother with antivirus software on my windows PC. Most anti-virus software is a resource hog and mostly worthless IMO.

I use Avast antivirus on the PC, it's free and doesn't seem to be too much of a resource hog.
For antispyware on the PC I've been using Microsoft Antispyware.
For the Mac, I have no clue what's available.

i have never used antivirus for macs...never had a need i guess...
for PC i rock the AGV-free from www.grisoft.com it's not intrusive and takes up very little system process...it's the bare min for usage but stops EVERYTHING! even has a built in auto email scanner that filters everything...
spyware? IE? safari? what's that? i use firefox.
thinking of switching to Thunderbird also to get away from all MS products...
