I had Exedy OEM clutches in the Outback and 2.5i. They were... Ok. But those cars also didn't make any power. I kinda would have liked more bite in the 2.5i.
I drove a Super Miata with a Spec clutch and liked it a lot. But it was a Miata.
Friend recently got a South Bend clutch on his Bugeye. The pedal felt good. But I didn't drive it. That clutch is kinda pricey and not rated for a lot of power.
My master plan is Spec 2+ and blast plates. See how that goes.

Everyone and their mother talks about blast plates. They've been out for well over a year (probably way longer, I can't keep track). I have seen all of 2 (not affiliated) people actually use them. Both of those are garage queens and saw maybe 500 miles of actual use. I don't even think a single one of them hit the track.So it makes me wonder......
And that's ignoring the financially terrible decision of paying to yank, pull apart, and essentially rebuild the 5sp while installing these, only to keep the shafts from flexing, which is only like half the problem with that box in the 1st place.

I agree that the jury is out on their effectiveness.
The plates themselves aren't terribly expensive. I haven't seen anything about pulling apart the transmission to install them. The plates bolt on either side of the case. But the transmission does need to be removed from the car. But if the transmission is already out to replace the clutch, would that not be a prime time to bolt some plates to it?
If I was indifferent about the 5mt, I would be looking for a 6mt. But since I like the 5mt ratios. I'm interested in at least trying the plates and seeing how it goes. If it turns out that 3rd still thinks the tooth fairy exists... Well, at least I tried.
