anyone have experience with carmax?

carmax seems legit, but im a little sketchy about their prices sometimes. seems too good to be true, especially on the cars i look at. i saw one that i wanted in florida and was thinkin real hard if i wanted to transfer it over to roseville, but i thought about it for a minute and now im not too sure.

does anyone have experience with carmax? horror stories? trustworthy?

I have a friend that has trouble keeping a car more than a couple of years before he finds a reason he doesn't like it.

He has had only good things to say about dealing (on both sides - buying/selling) with carmax.

ive bought my 01RS through them in roseville. they were actually very helpful, very nice and no pressure at all when i brought it back a year or so later to see how much they'd buy it for. id recommend them to buy a car from.

1FSTREX bought his STi from there a couple of weeks ago and said they were really cool. I've got another friend that works there and says the sales people are easy to deal with.

the car i want is in florida for a pretty damn good price. would you have it transferred without looking at it? its $850 to transfer it and its non-refundable.. well, except if the car is crap when it gets here of course. im wondering if i should just go for it. not sure how trustworthy they are with the condition of the vehicles they sell, but so far ive heard nothing but good things about carmax.

I would just wait until Roseville gets more. They go through STi's pretty fast. And from what I've heard is that if one car doesn't sell at one location for a given time period, it goes to the next CarMax and so on.

Their pricing model is high volume, low margin so they can kick down prices to sometimes unbelievable amounts. At first I too was unsure about them but I've only heard good things about the cars they sell (condition wise) and their service.

I had no pressure from them when we had them appraise our car. The appraisal was kind of low. But I've never heard anything bad.

BEWARE OF ANY USED CAR THAT COMES FROM THE GULF COAST!!! My dealer took an '04 TL on trade-in for an '06 MDX this year. The used car department got hosed when they found out that the car had been underwater and it fizzeled out the $3,000 navigation DVD unit and the $2,000 navigation screen! It doesn't even have to be a full-on submarine ride, just high enough to get inside the car. Ever since Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, any Gulf Coast car is suspect.

That's good to know.

Just remember: Caveat emptor----------------------> Buyer beware
