alignment or balancing?

Ok, so I got my Rota Torque 17x8 with Pirelli M&S 245/40/17.

The car was fine before the install. No vibration or pulling.
There is no vibration in the steering wheel but I noticed it pulls hard to the right.

So I gotta get my alignment done now huh? Please say it isnt so.

Alignments are always a good thing to do, especially if you change tire size. Your car definitely needs one.

when does it pull? when accelerating from a stop and stopping?

bear in mind that you're now driving on 8" wide sticky tires and not 6-1/2" wide bricks. your car is going to follow the road more, and most roads are actually banked for drainage purposes. my car pulls to the right like a ***** on crappy roads, but on a nice flat road it's just fine.

Are the tires used?
If so, try swapping the LF & RF around.
If the car still pulls to right, it's not wheel/tire combo.

Thanks everyone. The tires are new; the old setup was the stock STi's. I'm gonna check the air pressure again and make sure its ok before I head out to get my alignment.

I had my alignment done at Big-O earlier this year. They warranty the alignment for (I believe) 6 months or 6,000 miles. If you just want to have the alignment checked, look up a location of a Just Tires store and they'll do a free alignment check on their machine. There's one close to my house that I use sometimes, and I had them check my alignment when I thought it might be out, and they called back and said my alignment was fine (I got the printout). I was worried they might call back and let me know it was out regardless :| Problem ended up being one of my tires, so I rotated em and the pull is gone

I went to Sears to get a 4 alignment which not bad for ~$50. The fronts prior to alignment were (L) -.08 and (R) -.06- which were corrected to 1.

The problem is it still pulls to the right but in order to drive straight, the steering wheel looks like its turning to the left.

Sonicsuby, I will take your advice and switch the tires. X formation right- just like rotation or switch the fronts from right to left?

Thanks again.

Sears aligned it & your Scoobie still pulls to the right?
If so, sounds like a bad tire
Or does it track straight & it's just the steering wheel is not true?
If so, remove the airbag, the Jesus nut that holds the wheel to the column, and re-align the wheel.

It does not track straight AND the steering wheel is not true when driving straight. How can getting new tires and wheels cause such a problem?

I bought my tires from Tirerack.com and the wheels brand new as well- now I'm getting worried.

Can it by any chance be the balancing if there is no vibration?

THanks

OK...I got it.

If there's no vibration, I'd say the tires/wheels are balanced.

Did you try swapping the LF & RF wheels around before getting aligned, meaning that you took the the RF wheel/tire & put it on the LF hub, & vice versa.
New tires can still be defective.

Look at the alignment results.
Find the value under "Toe".
What are the before & after values?

ok I just went back to Sears to swap the LF w/ LR and RF w/ RR.
There is not as much pull and the steering wheel is more centered. They did not re-align it afterwards, though. Should this be a problem?

It sounds mainly like you need to just get the steering recentered. Like RussB said, most roads are crowned, so you'll naturally track to the right a bit.
