I'm moving to Colorado Springs next month. I have 3 cars...'04 STi with APS TBE w/high flow cat, an '86 Buick Grand National with no cat, lots of mods, and zero emmissions equipment, and a '71 Datsun 510 with a hybrid SR20DET motor.

Question #1 is whether there is smog testing in all parts of Colorado. In some states, if you're out in the boonies, smog testing is not required. As an example...do people in Pueblo have to test? The aircarecolorado.com website only specifies the counties near Denver.

And here in California, vehicles made prior to '74 are exempt from smog testing. But it looks like only vehicles made prior to 1959 are exempt in CO: http://www.aircarecolorado.com/requires.htm

Any insight and feedback from guys in the rural areas would be great...

I'm not quite sure - I would trust the website on that type of stuff. Most of the WRX guys from Colorado are over at www.awdpirates.net. Go check it out and ask over there. I bet someone can answer your questions.

In the Denver Metro area, cars older than 25 years need to pass emissions once, and it is only a tailpipe test (no dyno cycle).

Once you've passed emissions, you can get collector plates, which only need to be renewed every 5 years. As long as you don't let the your registration lapse you'll never need to get it tested again.

This is really OT, but is that Datsun running a USDM SR20 that's boosted or a JDM boosted one?

Nice. I used to work in parts for Peak Nissan off Wadsworth. I have a buddy that runs that same setup in his 240SX. Sucker runs! Probably because the SR is so much lighter than the KA...
