Subi won't cover your car if raced
yeah I bet if you tell them you want to buy a new car, and to take off all the warrenties and you give you the cash back the dealer won't want to do that. They are quick to push and extended warrenty on you just cause. They are willing to tell you anything about the car even though it is not true. I have been to dealerships where I knew more about the car than they did. You go in there and tell them you want a new car and you gonna race it so you don't need any warrites what so ever and see what they say.

true, but I wanted to use an example of another car to show that no matter what the intent of the owner, the intent of the manufacturer is that the car (no matter how sporty it is) remains a "street car" and they want no liability from those kinds of incidents that may result. Would you want somebody to take a product you made/invented, mod something and have yourself be responsible for the outcome (if it was bad) because of what he did to your product? I wouldn't.

Its just the idiotic few who ruin it for the people who actually do things right.

Subaru has faith in it's cars, but it does not have the same faith in the people who drive them. That is my take on the situation.
You play, you pay. It is the name of the game. Rarely will a car "break" because of a factory defect. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but people must remember warranties are to cover factory defects, not user error/abuse. Daily driving failure is not the same as racing failure.

Every single commercial about the wrx has to do with its speed and power. Hell, even in the commercial they are rallying(sp?) it! But when someone takes the car to a scca event or just even to wednesday night drags, they can void their warranties, whether they have mods or not. So what happens? People are afraid to go to the track because they are worried that they might get caught, so they do something really stupid and street race. I feel that if subaru is worried about their car not being able to hold up to the punishment, then they shouldn't advertise it in that way. This discussion has been done so many times in here and its starting to get tiring! I guess that I wish subaru would be more considerate to all of us that have the need for speed

So what should Subaru do? Not advertise the WRX and have it as maybe some sort of special "version" only available to a limited few? Maybe they need something that Ford was doing with their early model (maybe late too?) Cobra Rs. They maybe need racing licenses to drive them? However, that sorta limits the cars to a priviledged few in America while the intent of Subaru was to have it available to the public.
Note tho that, Saab (with their Saabaru), Toyota (with their Celica), Acura(with their RSX), Mazda(with their RX-8), and vice versa (even Volkswagon. look at the way they speed past the cop in one of their commercials), want those cars to be marketed as sporty. So they advertise the same way for any car that exonerates speed and handling.

a couple of things about mods, racing and warranties. first is that your relationship with the dealership is a factor. a dealer is willing to help you and also overlook problems if you have a good relationship with them. i have been autoxing for two years in D stock and they know it. there are also parts that are "mods" but are covered under warranty. Exhaust from Cobb Tuning doesn't void the warranty. also if you upgrade to a sti suspension, covered. My friend did that and when he he had to get it fixed, they took care of it. as for the SCCA and subaru, there might be a class action suit against Subaru of NA because of false advertisement. there have been cases of dealers not warranting the gearbox, even though they say its strong enough for hard driving.

Our local dealership here has sponsered track days so I just can't see them denying any warrenty work. But here in Hawaii we do not deal with SOA..The dealership brings Subaru's from Japan.
Any KrispyKreme bench racing "experts" know what the racing (abuse) warranty is on a new 150K Porsche? Ferrari? Maserati? et al?
Maybe a Saker? Saleen? etc.
So much smoke and BS.
My clutch is worn out and the flywheel is blue by the first oil change. Will you pay for my driving lessons and low IQ?
You race it, you break it, you own it. What's so hard to understand?

Do what the Porsche guys do when they total a car racing at Willow etc...
leave it in the middle of the desert and claim it was stolen...
No, not a good idea... that's why insurance premiums are so high!
You race it, and it's all out of pocket since the dealers only get paid 1/2 the labor rate for warranty work, so they are going to fight you tooth and nail..
Never mind racing wear.. most dealers give you a hard time with routine warranty items you'd think it was coming out of THEIR pocket!!!!
