hey ed, what was the dispute in stx about? anyone we know?
wish i could've made it out there. work schedule just wouldn't allow it. one of these days i'll finally try atwater and see all the big dogs!
looking forward to seeing the results and how our locals did.
cheers
**i just found a nasioc thread regarding the dispute. it's in the auto-x forum. did the other two drivers with the control arms also get protested?

Link to a thread on SCCA Forums where I explain the protest, and later on it has a link to the results : Click Here
It was discussed on NASIOC not too long ago, with folks (for the most part) concurring that it was an illegal mod for STX. So I'd guess the guy can't be TOO shocked he got protested
. It is worth noting that one of the folks on the Protest Committee convened at the event is Andy Hollis. Andy also happens to be the Street Touring liason to the SEB (Solo Events Board).
I won't say it's impossible that the protest committee decision will be overturned by the SEB......but I'd be surprised

Leo : despite what was said in the thread, only one other car in STX had the arms : Mark Mervich's WRX (he runs locally). I've known about it for a while. Wouldn't object at a local event (because, quite honestly, they don't make THAT much difference), but Mark is definitely leaving himself open to protest at any National Level event.
I already told Mark that I'd give him a hand swapping back on his stock arms if he wants help doing it.

Here's what I use for a definition of auto-x vs HPDEs (Not actual wheel to wheel racing)

Speed IMHO isn't much a big deal with me in an auto-x. If I wanted speed, I'd head to track days (HPDEs) where I could bury my foot and see how fast I could go before I had to brake, and then turn then gas again (and read war and peace on the straights). I like the agility aspect along with the sensory inputs required every fraction of a second to receive, process and then output the decisions. I like a challenge of knowing; a course, me, my car isn't perfect, overcoming those shortcomings, and doing the damn best I can to get around the course ASAP, given the design of the course.
