Heel Toe Pedal Position
So I'm trying to learn heel toe downshifting and I am having a hard time getting the throttle blip. When I'm on the brakes, the brake pedal is BELOW the throttle pedal by about an inch. I checked the brake pedal travel and found it to be well within the limits given in the service manual. I have aprox 2 1/2" of brake pedal travel from brakes not on to the threshold braking point. So what are you guys doing with your pedals? Or are you finding some way to deal with he brake pedal being below the throttle? I fabricated a bracket to slide the throttle pedal towards the brake pedal by almost an inch, which helped close the gap between the pedals. But I'm not sure how to address the height difference. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks

Most of the time when you are hard on the brakes and blipping the throttle for heel toe downshifting your pedal will line up. Keep working on it. It will come. If you have huge feet like I do you may have to roll the outer side of your foot to touch the throttle. Your heel may catch on the tranny tunnel. A simple blip when not on the brakes will allow you to engage a lower gear smoothly.

So I don't actually use my heel, I use both sides of my foot. I usually find that having the brake pedal below the gas pedal is not a problem -- you can always tilt the right side of your foot up a little. The problem is in for instance a porsche GT3 where the brake pedal is way above the gas pedal unless you are stomping on the brakes. The logic behind this is when you actually NEED to heel toe, the pedals line up. BUT they really don't need to, I use the ball of my big toe for the brakes and ***** of the outside toe or two for blipping the throttle. Hope that helps.
P.S. one track day I was at, I forget the name of the driver but he raced LMP class in the american le mans and when he was instructing me, he was driving barefoot and used only his big toe to brake down from like 120 to 30! Thought he was crazy until one day I drove barefoot and did the same thing, lol.

I have tried this and I had a really hard time. But I don't really have a pair of thin shoes and I generally have skate shoes on my giant feet. I have found that, much like pwn said, if you put you big toe on the right most edge of the brake pedal, you can reach the gas pedal pretty easily with you two smallest toes and blip the gas with that.
I try to get some heel toe practice when I drive around but I usually just end up hitting the gas and down shifting right after I am done braking so there is a split second transition from deceleration to acceleration, but at that point in time I am still entering the corner and I won't be back on the gas until I hit the apex, so I don't think much of it.
