No more scoop?

Looks like the new WRC car will no longer have a scoop:

Yeah, its been unnecessary for years, and only kept around for looks.

Its about time they ditched it for better aero.

you find the hood scoop as unnecessary, how do you figure?

They've been running an FMIC forever.

The scoop has been there purely for marketing reasons since the bugeye (WRC).

Going to take more than that to actually win this year.

Even though a lot of it was for marketing, it still was a functional scoop. You know how a lot of WRC cars have large vent holes for fans, well, the scoop was subaru's version of that. It wasn't as efficient, but it was functional.

And, IIRC, it's a V-mount intercooler, which... I guess you could consider as a FMIC.

Yeah, to some extent that's true. Its not totally useless, but it wasn't exactly the best thing. Vents operate differently than scoops, and the scoop was just more "in the way" than anything else. What I've been reading is that Prodrive has been wanting to get rid of the scoop for years now, but SOJ made them keep it on.

I like it. I hope Subaru can pull off a few victories and avoid deer.

Scoop

When I was at Prodrive's open house last year I had a lot of time to look at the WRC car. Under the hood of the '07 was a plate that blocked the hood scoop, it served no purpose other than for looks.
