After yesterday's mishap he was in 3rd place but was down 40 minutes from the leader...

That does suck. The part that sucks the most is that I have missed the whole rally. When was it on even? I saw adds for it on the t.v. but somehow always forgot/missed the show times. this is the first I have heard of it at all since I last saw somthing about it on t.v. Which makes me sad, sad like only a monkey can be sad.

ouch. i just checked the results sheet, and it looks like McRae is sitting down in 20th place, over 3 hours behind the leader. something must have happened to the Nissans, because Ari Vatanen is sitting in 19th only four minutes ahead of McRae.

As of last night's coverage, Colin was in 3rd overall. That stage yesterday was not for the faint of heart. According to Richard Sainct, certainly a Dakar vet, it was the hardest stage he's ever done. Colin was commenting on his stuck-on-the-crest-of-a-dune encounter that he had to fight against going into "WRC mode" and panicing that he was losing time on the dune.

if Richard Sainct described the stage as the hardest that he'd ever done, thats enough for me. the guy is Mr. Dakar himself.

According to Dakar.com **er, spoiler alert...**

All the Nissan's had problems recovering from yesterday (they weren't allowed to service their cars overnight), and all finished about 2 hours 40 minutes off pace.

since all the Nissans were affected, i was going to guess something along those lines.

Yeah, I don't have a TV so I watch everything on the internet. I sometimes forget that some people prefer to watch the coverage on TV w/o knowing the results

According to a post on specialstage, a couple of stages were cancelled as a result of roving bands of armed bandits in the area.

Ahh ha, according to raid-live.com, Colin experienced a transmission failure during leg 8, and that's why he lost a lot of time.
