The weeks heading into the 4th round of the CHCA racing season was jammed packed for the team. We are very happy to announce our new sponsorship with Super Rupair. The team retuned the rally car at Super Rupair prior to the Buffalo Peaks hill climb. Harvey at Super Rupair is an excellent tuner and helped get the timing map dialed in for the racing gas. The car is a much more drivable and gets onto boost much sooner.
Heading into the racing weekend the team was sitting in 2nd place in the driver’s championship with the team of Nathan and Brandye Conley close behind. Saturday was practice and qualifying. In qualifying you are given points based off your qualifying placement. Randy and Erik Placed 6th with Nathan and Brandye qualifying in 4th. The only problem is Nathan did not make it to the end of the course on his third run of the day. Unfortunately the problem with Nathan’s Subaru would be terminal and he will be unable to start on race day.
Erik and Randy started Sunday morning knowing that they would have to run a sub 3:00 stage time for any hope of getting on the podium making the tire change early on Saturday was a great move for the team, the soft Michelin tires matched the sandy damp road conditions to a tee. Unfortunately for the team they were unable to get under the 2:52.30 set by the team of Mike Whitman and Aaron McConnell and had to settle for 5th place.
The team has a pretty tight hold on 2nd place but proven by the Conley’s anything can still happen in Grand Junction for the final round of the Colorado Hill Climb Association 2007 season.
