Calling all photographers: Nikon or Canon?
CMOS or CCD?
I'm looking to get a DSLR within' a few months, but with so much out there, it's hard to make a choice.
I love CCD cameras, and have found them to be better than CMOS sensor cameras in the past, but these new DSLRs with the CMOS sensors may overcome the disadvantages of past CMOS cameras. I definitely hate the grain in CCD cameras in low light conditions, and found CMOS cameras to have more, but I don't seem to see such faults in the newer cameras that are DSLRs.
What do you guys use, how do you like it?
I'm going to be using this for typical photos like family gatherings, but also for what I most like to do and that is artistic shots. lots of nature, use of filters, possible dipping into HDR and things like that.
I shoot with a Kodak Z740 right now, and I've maxed it's capabilities. I need something I can learn and grow into, and about $1500 or less for the body.
I'm looking at a D80 right now, but I know there are many others on the market right now as well.

I've been using Nikon for a few years, and I recently made the jump to a D200. All I can say is that it was worth it. The D200 has some added features to help combat noise from both high ISO and long exposure, and it works pretty darn good.

I have D80 with the somewhat expensive 18-200VR lens and I love the combo.
