Talking of clean-up ...if a negative (black & white) has a spot on it because some of the silver stayed on when I processed it in class ... is there anyway to remove it later on? Or do I have to scan the print and photo-chop it? It's one of my favourite photos ...

While you were cleaning things up and playing with them, couldn't you have taken that fiber off the mountain?? It's a dust speck, or a fiber or something in the picture that disctracts...
...from an otherwise nice shot.
I'd like to learn how to do some post-production in order to clean up some of my shots...
actually that is a problem with my lens i found out. i need to probably send it in to Nikon for a replacement.

there should be an in camera setting to flip the mirror up. someone mentioned it later about the 20D. with the mirror flipped up, just take ones of those squeeze things that blows air and blow it a few times. DO NOT use the bulb setting in the camera to flip the mirror up. since the bulb setting still charges the sensor, more crap will just get attracted to it. after cleaning, just shoot a white piece of paper at f/11 or so to see how dirty it is. dirt on sensor usually shows up when you're shooting with a small opening in the lens. that's why it's more likely that it'll show up when you're shooting landscapes in sunlight.
DO NOT SPRAY THE SENSOR with a can of air. DO NOT EVER!
i wouldn't try touching the negative. if the spot is in an area that's easy to fix, then i would just scan the negative and fix it in photoshop.

i don't think stuff on lenses can cause that. junk/lint on lenses don't usually show up on images. that lint looks like it's dirt on the sensor. put another lens on the camera and take a shot of a white piece of paper at f/11. i'm willing to bet money it'll show up again.

Need advice. I'm a software tester gone photographer (some for work) but Now im really starting to enjoy myself. And it gets me out of the house. I have usage of like 30 P&S cameras, but only slr I can regularly use is Pentax k10d....
I want to buy myself something, I kinda want a k10d because I see a few cheap lens for it, the camera itself is pretty cheap........and I've used it a bunch......
However I really want a d80 (my pops has one) but I've probably spent an hour behind the controls max.
what should I do?
I love nature shots mainly, but like to have versatility. I want to have a reg lens, for example I think k10d is 18-55 stock............and then a long zoom lens or something cool.
Anyway I can get a d80 setup like this for not much more than pentax? or am I dreaming?

saw that
If i have to spend a lot I want to get something that will keep me happy/up on technology for a while.....
How much are full frame sensor cameras?

I am new to the forums, but I am glad to see there are more photographers!
I love to photograph cars! Of all shapes and sizes! :-) I have more on my myspace, but here are a few!
Here are a few of my VW pics, from a Rally last month [dont hold the VW thing against me, I was just there to photograph]!
