i have lots of studio shooting experience and the best way for the background to show is to over expose it.

Thanks, I'll play around with that. In this picture, I actually put the light behind the backdrop. Should I overexpose it even more? Also, what about for black and darker backdrops? Appreciate the tips!

you never have to put light behind the backdrop. usually what i do is put a light pointing at the backdrop then measure the light back there and open your lens a bit more. then adjust the light pointing at the subject perfect to what your camera settings will be. remember that when using studio lights, you have to have a handheld meter and adjust every light manually. also the settings on your camera are always manual. that way you have predictable results with every shot.

i love to come over and help you with all of that one day. i can bring my lights and other dark backdrop and meter. i will also bring my Mamiya RZ67 camera. you bring the model.

that shot is from a Nikkor 17-35/2.8 lens shot on film. actually all those shots were shot on film.

one photographer once told me, "I don't understand why people buy different color backdrops. All I do is get a white one and put color gels on my lights."

It is a "Banded Argiope" or some crazy **** like that...it is the size of my hand!
Scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it, I ran back in the house and slammed the door (because in my terrified girly mind I figured the spider had apposable thumbs). Then I got used to it...I have a bunch of pics of it... weird...

As for photos, a friend of mine dropped by wth his newly aquired Gorilla Suit..
