'08 Impreza STI & '08 Evolution X
This might have been discussed in other threads but I kind of want to bring the discussion just to our region. What I want to have is an open dialog about the two vehicles and what you think of both of them. I know it might be utterly impossible to get unbiased opinions, being the Subaru loyalists that we are, but I know we can do it.
08 Impreza STI
PROS: Like the the redesigned chasis and the slick interior. The added power is nice and I like how the torque peaks 400 rpms earlier. The ride of the car is supposed to be more civilized, dont know if thats a good thing, but whatever.
CONS: The redesign of the exterior is questionable. The flares look tacked on and it seems that Subaru has difficulty designing a decent grill. However, with concern to the look of the car, with time I know I'm probably going to end up loving the new look... as with all the other iterations of the STI.
08 Evolution X
PROS: The exterior is very nice and has a certain sharpness goin for it. The interior is redesigned and doesnt look that bad. (Thank God) I heard that the new AWD system is pure sex and that it can probably cut corners faster than reggie bush. The amount of power their drawing from 2.0 liters is amazing, they manage to accomplish this, what seems like, every year.
CONS: The rear of the car sucks, I hate how the tail lights dont go with the overall flow of the car. Reminds me of generic copies of the IS350 tail lights. The weight of the car is 300lb heavier than the previous Evo?! The added power might help a little, but I dont know how much that can compensate for staggering amount of added weight.
So in the end, essentially, there both the same cars coming from two different companies. Competition never smelled so good.....

dave hit the nail on the head.
the evo grill looks like a Dodge truck mixed with a Volvo (on steroids).
the sti grill looks like a Saturn crossed with a Chrysler (on steroids).
i like the side views of both the sti and evo. there's a lot of German influence from this angle. the front and backs of both i'm still warming up to.
can't wait to hear how people like the new vdc/si on the sti and how the paddle shifters flow on the evo. very interesting indeed.
i hear they both rock performance-wise and that's obviously important.
as JunEJ20 said the competition between these two top notch rivals definitely has never been richer and benefits all of us high-performance car enthusiasts with better cars each model year.

I prefer the new STI, although I wish they would have decided to offer it in a sedan version also. Most of the gripes people have with the STI can be fixed in the aftermarket (goodbye to that grill, aftermarket wheels, etc).

Car Info: '05 Impreza Outback Sport ~ "WTF! Two-Toned?"
Well, we finally got both in at the dealership! No MR yet (just the 5 spd) in the EVO X. Both the EVO and STI are in dark metallic grey! When side by side the STI is a much more aggressive car, pure evil.
They are BOTH so much more refined, road noise, ride, etc. Far better to sit in and motor about. The Recaro's in the EVO are for small people (not to sure if they are not the exact seat used in the Japanese market?). Way too narrow for my 6'2" 200 lb fat ***! On the other hand, as 'Goldilocks' said so nicely in her little fairy tale. The STI seat me "just right". The STI feels a bit 'classier' in the interior... the quality of materials is a notch above the EVO.
The 300 lbs seems to disappear when you drive the EVO. The turn in is amazing! But, not real keen on the car driving its self... the electronic traction control is a bit 'heavy handed' for my taste (yes, you can defeat). The pull from that 305 ponies in the STI just can't be beat! Pushes you in the seat and keeps you there till redline.
It's as it always has been, a tough choice that comes down to personal preference, It's like try to decide which beautiful woman to date. Either one will keep you interested and make you sweat!

The evo seems to be getting a lot of praise lately. The STI's been getting beat out by it in a lot of the magazine comparisons. Heres the link to car and drivers comparo: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...omparison_test
