so can anyone suggest how deep the snow you shouldn't go into?

i think you are good but, it is up to you to decide how deep you should go. but, please do not try this at all.... i have seen people drive on frozen lakes but this could happen to you.

That really sucks, but do I see cones in the backround? was someone ice racing or what? Maybe he just got a little off course. Anywho, I saw another pic, very similar with a WR blue STI even more submerged.

it totally depends on the type of snow that it is. fresh dry powder, you can probably drive through 3 feet of it. more icy stuff, less. it all depends. i have been through stuff where my bumper does act as a plow and it hasn't been a problem. other times like the picture above it was an inch of ice then 6 inches of sugar snow and i wasn't gonna go anywhere, the sugar stuff wouldn't let you get traction and the ice would high center you so you had to dig out the entire underside of the car in order to get free

then especially depends on what tires you have, hugfe difference between re-92s and some snow tires and then studded snow tires

Subarus cant go through 3 feet of snow. My Hummer can barely get through that. One word of advise from a Michigan winter with my WRX. DO NOT USE KUMHO 712 TIRES! "I wanted to take a left there, but I will keep going straigt." Put some winter/all seasons on it and you should be ok. If you get stuck turn your steering wheel left and right to transfer power constantly untill you get some grip or the ability to move. Have fun in open snowwy parking lots, but be carefull. You may like dougnuts, but your power steering pump doesnt.

i know 3 feet is quite deep, the depth wasn't the point, i was making the point that it depends what kind of snow it is. the most i have been in was 1 foot fresh snow and it wasn't a problem and i had re92s at the time

I don't understand, why does the power steering pump not like if you are just going around in circles?

Not trying to be rude, I just don't understand... I can't wait till it snows here in PA...eheheh I just hate the damn salt and cynders that they use...

Thanks :-)

Doing doughnuts is stressfull on your steering components. Last winter I f*cked up my pump after a weekend in the UP. Doing doughnuts in snow is fun, but like most things fun in a car isnt the best for them. It was f'ed so bad that it was not power just hard to turn while breaking. I will be doin it again this winter though.
