Plasti-Dip and Vinyl fun
Hi guys. I started to get bored and decided to order some white carbon vinyl and plasti-dip in a few colors.
The to-mod list:
spoiler
hood scoop
wheels
side badges
rear badges
bumper vents
grills
Here's the start of it all. The spoiler is a pain in the *** to cover in vinyl btw.
And I didn't like the silver lines up the sides of the stereo/vents.
More to come when my plasti-dip shows up next week.

Sorry, but I feel it needs to be said: spoils and random trims in different colors than the rest of the car look awful, especially when there is the level of contrast seen between white and blue.
Also be aware that plastidip can permanently ruin your paint.

I've actually heard about it ruining your clear coat. Causes pitting or something. The plasti-dip is planned primarily for the wheels and non-painted parts, so I'm not too worried. I've seen some cars with drastic contrasts that were good, but yeah I've also seen plenty that were awful. It's not gonna cost too much to try anyway.

This is a general statement and not specifically toward your friend...but the size of person's wallet sometimes does not directly correlate to size their intelligence (or common sense, driving skill, etc)

[edit:] this poster also mentioned elsewhere that part of the dip on his bumper actually took ALL the paint off on one spot of his bumper when he pulled it off.

I personally thing plastidip is fine for a car with ruined paint. To apply it to nice paint just seems kind of not so smart. Vinyl on the other hand seems like the way to go if you want something to remove. I've read MANY stories of dudes doing their rims and having it chip off easily. If you've ever used the stuff on other things, it works, but it really isn't that strong unless you apply multiple coats.
Never seen that white CF style woven vinyl. Will be curious to see how it comes out once more of it is done.

Not to make matters worse but I am assuming the vinyl you got was 3m? Well I hope you got the 1080 scotchprint because that is meant for automotive use. DI-NOC is not, it's for home and interior use (It can't handle the beating from the sun). My friend just pulled off his CF DI-NOC wrap off his roof and it turned out exactly like the picture below. He also did his interior trim and it pulled that paint off that too. Just a heads up.

Seems like a function of a couple of things there - the adhesive likely causes an issue or it is really strong, if black, it will get really hot if you leave it in the sun. Subaru is known for thin paint = stuff like that. That really sucks. I've only applied it to parts that were plastic and/or unpainted so far. I guess 3M's 1080 uses their VHB type adhesive, which I've used on my cars and other things before and it leaves no residue.

Dang. Well, I got 3M so that shouldn't be too bad, plus my paint isn't factory. I repainted the car a few years back and sprayed 3 heavy layers of clear. Plasti-dip won't be here until Tuesday, and then I have the in-laws coming next weekend. Gonna have to disappear for a few hours to the garage.
