Lokdown00's Nightmare Subie Build
Hi my name is Megan. I haven't really been on nor been out in the scene lately because I've been dealing with a nightmare of a build. lol I've wanted to post a build thread for my subie for a while now but I just haven't gotten around to it. Anyways heres some background information.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mpetrinophotography/5694811505/http://www.flickr.com/photos/mpetrinophotography/5694811505/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/mpetrinophotography/, on Flickr
So I bought this car in 2011 in Rochester, NY through Nasioc. It came looking like this with a few bolts on and such. I didn't buy the wheels with it. Loved the car it was amazing!
Until I made one STUPID decision...-_____-
I let someone drift my AWD subie on dry pavement. I'm still kicking myself for it to this day.
Went from this...
To this...
The subie spun a bearing...
So with being that I decided which route I wanted to take. I decided on swapping in a EJ257 (STi motor) in. I bought a fresh EJ257 from a guy in Sellersville, PA. Saying that it was all freshly built with CP pistons and built by a professional shop. Bought it for $1500 and began the process of putting it in the car! I wasn't driving the car when the car spun a bearing so I made an agreement with the guy who was driving to fix the car. He has prior knowledge in building subies. In the process of installing the engine I also had the engine bay shaved and painted a GTR midnight purple, tucked wires, fuse box relocated to the fender, and battery relocated to the trunk.

Here's the first start
On the day of bringing the car to the tuner. The car spun a bearing in idle...
Here's the aftermath:

Once investigating what happened, there was no engine lube in the engine at all and the rings on the pistons were upside down scoring the piston walls very bad. I went back to the guy that sold it to me and he refused to give my money back saying its my fault because I didn't open the block up before installing it...:dude:. Because I didn't take the precautions when buying something I couldn't get my money back.
SO that brings me to my second engine...
I went on NASIOC searching for a good deal for a EJ257. I found a guy from Texas that was selling a built STi short block. He had great reviews on Nasioc and I talked to him on the phone and through text. He had 2 shortblocks for sale and I was buying one and so was another guy. I went ahead sent the money and waited for the block to come. A day after sending the money I texted him asking for a tracking number. He never responded his address and phone number was fake. The only thing that was real was his name and email. The engine never came and couldn't get my money back...again.
Here's the for sale thread:
FS: (For Sale) SOLD!!STi Short Block . - NASIOC
His name is Samuel Gonzalez
At this point I was running out of money and patience. I decided to just send the first block to the machine shop. Ordered all new parts including:
New Set of CP Pistons
OEM Crank
Eagle Rods
ACL Bearings
ACL Rod Bearings
OEM Oil cooler
OEM oil pan

Then came the problem with dealing with my "mechanic." Everyone in town kept telling me to not trust him and to watch out. I didn't believe it and didn't listen. I am also kicking myself for that. Long story short things didn't get done. With a couple of friends I towed my car from his joke of a garage and took all my parts with me to an actual mechanic and friend in New York. My "mechanic" ALSO refuses to give me back my money which was well over 2k when all he did was cosmetic engine bay mods... excluding the paint in which I paid someone else to do. I'm not going to blast him but he knows who he is and is actually a member on NEPA Street Scene.
Currently as of September 1st, I am now with an actual mechanic and currently buying my THIRD donor engine to take off various missing parts and such. The car has been down since Spring Break. (About 5 months)

WOW that is a lot of BS. I would have lost it at the second motor and killed the project.
Cant wait to see your car at the Ocha meet!
