Damn dude; I wish you lived closer to me. I would be on this like white on rice; I would offer my services and help every moment I could. Although.. thats just the type of person I am. Point being. If you can supply the metal and supplies (I have the welder); I might be able to tig you an intake manifold if I can find some time soon.. its crazy around here being the holiday season and all that rot.

As for your exhaust manifold. Go to advance auto. Get a few feet of flexi... its the exhaust fixing material. Thats what i used to mock up my exhaust/uppipe setup for my 1971 VW Karmann Ghia that is now rolling around with a T3/T04E turbo and a 75 shot to spool it.

Let us know how far you get.

Regards,
Gered

dude, thats awsome, thats also the most any one has offered to help me on this. i only wish you could come down to help me out. anything is better than having to pay $600-$800 for msp to custom make a two pipe header for the car. needless to say, i cant afford that kind of work.
as for the intake manifold, i already have a manifold that i want to use in it, i am just waiting on the tuurbo and xt6 throttle body. by time im ready for the new turbo set up, i should be running edis and megasquirt on the car, if i can get it.

as for the itke plumbing i will be needing something better than what i have nw, just to get through inspection.

ill be back soon to pput down the other thoughs im having, but right now i am at work and not really suposed to be on the internnet. oops.

peace

well, as promised, more bad news. i just found out today that the short block is about to die, thus the excessive blowby and oil in the intake. everytime i fix something, somethig else breaks, i finally fixed the heater fan and now the engine tries to crap. i am thinking or pulling the car off the road and starting over from scratch. i am thinking about something like a wrx or jdm twin turbo legacy swap. as long as i have cats in the pipes, i should be able to pass emissions. and if i do it right, inspection shouldnt be a problem. my only concern would be the gears in the transmission, ive been told that they are only good till like 300hp. then the tranny tends to granade. this project might take a while do to my total lack of funding, that and i would still want to keep the stock interior. te only exceptions would be a nice roll cage and seat belts, possibly some good racing seats. iam going to try to get to full time at my job so that i mght be able to save up for what i want. this could take a while.

well, i guess ill be stripping the car back down to the point that i can start off from the begining. i think ill be returning my tags tomarrow, and then ill cancel the insurance soon after. the real annoying part is that i need another car sothat i can put my impreza in the shop fora major service, im not haveng any good luck lately.

if anyone wants to help out with either car or getting parts, let me know, i need all the help i can get.

peace
tim c.

i thikn i will save my money for a while and get a legacy turbo block and sti heads. then on top of that, ill upgrade the internals and run twin turbos. if i am going to start over, i will do it right. ill pull out all the stops and go for overkill.i want at least 350-400hp and tq. if i must wait for it, i want it to be worth the wait. this time around, i think ill colloect all the parts i need ahead of time and then put it together once i get at least 85% of the parts. i think that the only thing i will take to a shop would be the wiring and exhaust. i want to keep the original gauges and interior as well as transmission. the only thing in the tranny ill change isthe gears, i will try to find strengthend gears. ill post again after i figure out what im going to do.

Dude man.. let me know.. I can sell you my RA gear set (in gear box) for say 1800... its got 40k on it.

Also.. Go with a gt30r setup. I'd be willing to weld pipes up for you for T&M $.
You can get a gt30r-like turbo for CHEAP. Use some USDM WRX Heads.. with cams instead of the sti heads. Throw in a 50 shot of nitrous and you are good to go.

At this point you are probably going to need a new drivetrain anyway.. heh.

you can use the tranny from a xt6
the ea81 bolts up to it and it is as good if not better than a impreza tranny with ra gears i was talking to a guy that fixes and sells xt6s and he sold one and said the kid launched it and broke the drive shaft not the tranny gears plus the gears shift like butter compared to a impreza

if you need help just pm me

have you do a compression test?

because how many thousand miles are on the manifold if it is more than 100k and if it has good compression the motor is still good because the oil you see is just normal crankcase venting

well, i got another engine today, $200 at the junk yard. i will install it tonight and get back in the morning. that much oil in the intake is by no means " normal". the engine had bugered piston rings.

i got the engine in and running last week, took till thursday to get ti running. but noticed a huge coolant leak above the block and under the manifold. its pooling in the spark plugs on the passengerside of the engine. im not entirely sure how im going to get it through inspection, i need to get the steering rack to stop leaking, fix the coolant leak, fix a hole in the down pipe flange for the turbo stud. then i pray that the mva doesnt fine me for not renewing the temp tags for the car before last week. so far i just have a lot of little issues to work out before i can get the ghetto sti project rolling foward again, at the moment, money is still an issue even though i am working. that and every time i fix a problem, another one crops up. i am going to replace the intake manifold gaskets tomarrow, i hope that fixes the problems i am running into. that and the boost gauge i installed crapped out on me within 5 miles. glad i have another one coming soon. ill chime in again tomarrow.

Ugh, sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. I wouldn't even be able to imagine how hard of a time you are starting from scratch.

Best of Luck on your project, keep those fingers crossed.

well, i think that the leak has gotten a bit worse, i drove the car around the block and when i parked the car, i noticed a pool of coolant under the front end. i havent had time with all the hoidays to get out and try to fix the car, again.

ill give it a try today if i can.
