Hold up here, I for one ASKED if his parents handed him the car or not and if he REALLY knows how to drive these kind of cars with some professional education on driving at high speeds. It seems more logical that if his parents bought it from him, chances are he doesn't value the vehicle or other people on the road. If he bought it himself, then there's a better chance that he has learned to respect his buy and how to actually drive such a car.

This scares the living **** out of me that 16 year olds are driving 300 hp STi's. Sorry, but the math simply doesn't add up that this would be a safe situation.

Hey there,
I consider my self a young STI owner at 24, but Solarian, you are 19. That places you with most of the data collected on teenage drivers. My age group is not far behind. Regardless of what you drive, you can kill with any car. Reckless is reckless. This kid is just stoked to get an STI, even if it was given to him. Had you been in his situation, you would not have turned it down.

Hey PhatAmir87, welcome to Subaru and have fun.

I never said that I had it rough growing up, or anything like that. I just said, NORMALLY it is better for someone to work for something, and also work up to a great car like a sti.

I dont like to disclose the exact year but I will say taht I am older than this guy but not old enough to drink. (which is why I drive a 91 Legacy) I may sound like an old fart a lot on this board but I've known too many people who have gotten hurt or killed doing dumb-*** things in fancy, expensive cars their parents have given them. That is the very reason why I go to auto-x, rally-x, and track days as much as possible (besides the fact that they are a BLAST) even though my car probably has half or less the amount of hp as the other cars out there. (91 legacy LS 5-speed) The reason I got all up tight is because I hate to see when some arrogant (which, now I see, you are Not, repeat, you are not) guy comes in here saying what a great driver he is, and how he has a porsche and "going from a porsce to a subaru i feel wierd". As much as I say this though, I know how he feels right now. I felt like that for a very little while before I started doing auto-x. Then I learned how little I know about driving.

Probably the main reason though that I got pissed was jelocy (sp?), yes, I am jelous, as every one else on this board probably is too. Now that I think about it though, I'm probably more happy now than I would have been had my parents just got me a STi. Right now I am about to sell the leg. and buy a 2001 Subaru Forester S 5-speed w/ my own money. I knnow that when I get that car, I will be more proud of that car, considering I earned the money to pay for it, than had it been my parents had just gone out and got me a STi.

Ranting again...

you would say no mom and dad thats ok i want to work for my car, when its right theyre in front of you.

I would grab those keys so QUICK. my parents would never to that but if they did i would take it.

It's not the situation that bothers most of us it's the fact that we worked for our cars, and the forum has kind of a working class feel to it. Anyone would take a free car, but if you go on a board like this and say anything that hints at snobbery not that Amir did you are going to get full on flamish postings.

At the age of 24, you have a lot of experience and awareness of the responsibility of driving, as apposed to someone that just got their license with too much confidence on the road. Add 300 hp to that confidence in a residential street and it just sounds dangerous. I personally don't own a Subaru, nor will I own one for at least another year, which again I will be taking classes on how to drive it...on the track, NOT on the road with other lives at risk.

Yes, you can kill with any car at any given age, but recklessness is a choice by the driver alone.

I dunno, that's a hard one to answer, because my family is not rich. If that were to really happen, I would first **** a brick and accept it immediately, but after some thought I would feel guilty that they spent $30,000 that they can't afford. If they had the money, I probably would accept it, but I would pay them back somehow, whether it be through money or something nonmaterial.

Sorry if I, for one, am jumping to conclusions with this kid, but I'm just get the impression of the bad things. And, I have to admit, I am envious of rich people, because of what I have experienced with the rich part of my family in Florida. Stereotypical as it is, I have a hard time with them, because I feel that their life is handed to them, while the rest have to work their *** off to earn things. It breaks my heart that 1/3 of this world won't be able to have a higher education, due to finances, let alone clothing, shelter, food, etc....and here I am *****ing about someone having an STi or not when I could donate something to those that need it.

your all just jealous. If a 17 year old can have a fast car and handle it, more power to him. Whats wrong with being rewarded for doing well?

That's the thing, we don't know that he can drive a fast car and handle it.

What we know or suspect is besides the point. its none of our buisness. Pesonaly I think every one who gets a license hould have to take a comprehensive driving exam including countersteering work on a skid pad. I see people driving like crap every day but I'm not going to flag them to the side of the road and take there keysl. Where does any one get off making a judgment about weather or not some one deserves, should have, or has the competancy to own ANY tpe of vehicle. As for jelousy, well better get used to it, or get passed it, it does you no good at all.

is that..ur family's ..car..up there....???

btw, anyone can say they can handle a fast car JUST because they are given one and they drive it everyday, and just because your parents bought u a porshe and uve been driving around fast cars..doesnt mean u can handle them, because like you said, u've never street raced or got spending tickets, how do u know, when u actually use those 300hps..u can handle it?

yeah, im sorry if i sound mean, but i myself am 16, and ive been into cars for soooo long, back in like 7th grade..i play racing games, collect car models, look at pictures, read hella forums, and..ive been waiting for a car all my life really. on the day my driver's ed class was over, that friday i went to the dmv to get my permit..and the week after the 6 months period, i made my appointment for the driving test, and its been 6 months sicne i had my license..and still no car. i thikn everyone should be thankful they atleast HAVE a car..and a wrx in that case, cuz people like me, just lurking the forums and dreaming about cars..it really DOES suck to have to bus and walk everywhere. so, im sorry but i do hate people who are given free things, and not just a corolla from their daddy or mommy..but a ****ing porshe or sti..

life sucks

ok now im done ranting, sorry everyone

boxter trade in value is only 33k?? kinda low..i thought it was much higher, oh well
