get a mac - you get what you pay for. so its a bit more $, but you know for sure that it will work, work well, and work well for a long long time. us suby drivers buy high performance tires one or two times a year, some of which are more expensive than laptops. so just keep the tires a bit longer and get a better computer. i would only buy a pc laptop as a pr0n only computer haha.

meh, the dell statement is up in the air imo. There are a few bad ones, a few good ones. I have had friends with the same dell laptop for 3+ years, and friends that have trashed theirs within the first 6 months. It's all on the user themselves. I read the new Dell Inspiron is pretty damn good for its money <800. Inspiron 13 i think its called?

To me, sleek, reasonable specs, and attractive price doesn't show me quality, in which me, family, and friends have had to deal with using Dell laptops. Most of the problems I've seen with Dells, is more from manufacturer than user error. However, just my .02

I've heard a lot of both, as now both sides have a lot of fanboys. What I've heard though, is a lot of the "rumors" about macs aren't true. Such as PCs are actually used more in the professional film editing industry, music industry and the like, while macs are used more in amateur stuff. This is coming from my friend who is a film major at Chapman college.

I've also heard that macs perform much faster at the same speeds, for example a 2.0Ghz mac will perform better than a 2.0Ghz PC, however, with the price you pay for a mac, you can get a PC that operates at a faster speed which will perform faster than the Mac.

Then again, you have to deal with all the viruses, spyware, adware which all slow down PCs quite a bit, but I'm sure with the popularity of macs skyrocketing, they will soon be targeted as well.

I would highly suggest against HP laptops. My work issued me a new HP laptop that already had internal problems. Even after getting it serviced under warranty, it was still having the same problems. My brother had an HP laptop, but in about a couple of years later, his HDD crashed on him.

However, if you're just going to use the laptop for writing papers and the internet, the cheapest thing you can find should do you just fine. If you're going to use the computer for engineering related programs (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc), then you're probably limited to PCs. Not to say that they don't have drafting software for Mac, but college/universities that have those programs have them on PCs.
