Theft Recovery 2008 STi with 3500 miles?

I've been watching this car on the dealer network and while I can't afford it I am intrigued... I can grab it for someone if they want.

It says "Salvage history Vehicle was Theft recovered from insurance company State inspected Only 3.5k miles Absolutely No frame damage Guarantee. The only painwork is small touch up on right rear quarter, hardly visible. Still Brand New Check pictures for all details."

It would probably be about $25500 after shipping here.

interesting.. what was the cause of the salvage then?

if it was recovered in that condition, should it be ok?

The selling dealer says it's perfect aside from that one spot of touch up paint.

I'll guess and say that the branded title was caused by it being stolen and paid off before recovery or it acquired too many fees/fines/liens while awaiting the adjuster. I see some pretty nice cars at the insurance auctions. Nicer even than a lot of "clean" cars.

Who knows, it could have been insurance fraud. Someone got it, couldn't afford it.

*shrug

you know how much damage you can do to a motor in 3,500 miles when the car is stolen...

I had the option to buy a stolen car with 15 miles on it when I got my STi, and I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. It's bad JuJu, like owning one of Michael Vick's dogs, might seem nice, but you never know whats waiting for you.

If they give you a free 100,000 mile warranty maybe, but I have to fight, and sue Subaru of America for all my warranty work so.........

Ummm...... If you stole a car would you break the motor in? If you bought your car would you break the motor in?

Answer me these two questions and your previous statement might seem silly.

ummmm... I've ridden with plenty of people who don't "break" a motor in (which is a whole other discussion). I see how people drive. I see how lot rats drive brand new dealership cars, how valets drive cars... so no. I don't feel that my statement is silly at all.

and there are a lot of people with the theory that a car is broke in as soon as it is cranked over for the first time...

I kind of do too... what do you guys think a good offer would be for this?

*not that I'm going to get it. I'm not allowed to buy any more red cars.

its salvage, you will never get a good price if you try to sell it. I would not pay more than 15k
