Tranny Noises?

I have just noticed that when i floor it on my Automatic i hear this crackling sound!(still under waranty). Anyway's i took it in to get looked at and they say they dont see any problems with my tranny. That crackling is only present when i floor it didnt want to tell that to the Mechanic thinking he might try to void the warranty any clues what i could be? The car still shifts great, even when i floor it. it gots me all paranoid. Any ideas as to what it could be?

I had a loaner WRX with an automatic once while my car was in for service. It also made a crackling sound at WOT, but I just assumed the person before me had filled it up with 87 octane and the engine was pinging.

now that you say that ive been using 89 octane and when times are hard 87 octane. i didnt know something that small of a detail could make that big of a impact. Well next fill up im gona use 91 octane with techron. i will post back to see if that gets rid of the problem?

did the perosn who sold you the car tell you about turbo cars and the need for the best gas you can get?

Do not go less then 91 octane in a WRX.

Thank you.

91 is the way to go. Empty your tank with a lot of easy driving (no WOT or spirited driving) and get it as empty as possible. Then go to the 76 at almaden and foxworthy and put in a few gallons of 100 and then fill up with 91. This will put you at a higher than 91 octane rating, otherwise you can fill up with 91 but still take it easy for a few tanks of gas to make sure all of the 87/89 octane gas is out.

My 4EAT doesn't make any crackling noise. the power used to surge when at 50% throttle or more though. If your car does that look into getting it tuned.

hey bro ya it sounds like engine pinging.
dont let the pennies you save fool you into buying low octane.
1. the octane is the measure of energy in your fuel, therefore the engine uses less gas to create the power. whereas when you use a lesser octane your engine uses more gas to compensate. your hard earned pennies really are not saving you anything.

not only that but "pinging" is when there is detonation on the piston head... ya bad news. so down the road when you have engine damage, the friggen 2 dollars a tank you save f you in the ...... anyway you get the point.

oh and dont fall for off brand gas stations like supermarkets or family own bs. only go with the good stuff. i perfer shell personally, because if ferrari is going to use it in their F1 car then thats the stuff for me.

I hope you didn't mess anything up. Detonation is bad Mmm Kay. Our rod bearings take a whooping without it.
