Pretty much copying/consolidating my Intro post from NASIOC. Heard this site has a strong Bay Area following and, well, I'm in the Bay Area so... Hi!
Just bought my first Subaru. No, I'm not a die-hard performance-yearning track driver. Just a college kid that needed a ride to and from school and work. That ride used to be a 1994 Chevy Lumina. It died on an ill-fated trip to Vegas.
Now said ride is a 1997 Subaru Outback Sport. I know, I know, pics or it didn't happen... I'll get those up in this space later. I know I owe it to the internets. I won't disappoint.
Anyhow, the car is a 5-speed and runs alright. Yee 2.2L of horizontally opposed fury. Compared to the Lumina, it's a blast to drive. Got some little things to fix but nothing major, and as far as the actual driving of the car goes, it works and works well. It's not an STi, it's not turbo'd, and I'm not a boy racer. So, y'know, maybe my expectations are low. All the same, I love this car already.
I'm not looking for 400+whp or wicked mods. Just gonna spend my time searching and lurking and (hopefully) learning.
Anyhow, that's my 'Hello World!'. I'll get pics up soon, but here's a quick cell phone shot to tide you cool folks over:

Thanks for reading!

Sounds like something I'd do to a VW ;D A few years ago, I owned an '84 Rabbit GTi. Took all I could muster to keep the thing running xD
(Another consolidate post from NASIOC)
Re: It's quite clean. It was recently repainted. Used to be blue, but the driver's side door was replaced. It used be green. One of the previous owners, to clean up the mismatch, spray painted the thing black. The guy I bought it from didn't like that at all so he gave it proper paint job, still in black. No real dents or dings to speak of. For sure, it looks pretty nice on the outside.
Inside is a little less impressive, but by no means bad. The shifter boot needs either fixing or replacing, and some weather stripping needs to be replaced (sounds like the passenger side rear window is cracked even when rolled up). I'll have nice photos of all these things once I get the chance to take/edit/post them.
My biggest concern right now is that I can't lock the hatch. Key works fine for ignition and doors, but the hatch is a no go. Not sure what to do about that. I'd be happy if I could lock it from the inside somehow, just so I could park in Oakland with some peace of mind. Might have to replace that lock and carry two keys?
Anyhow, like I said, I'll have photos and notes on all the little things I want to make right on this car. For now, I just enjoy driving it =D

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
Aaaand here are the pics. Well, first batch, anyway. Not fantastic, but they'll do the job. Yes, it's dirty. I'm currently living next to a construction site. So dusty all the time =(
Another shot of the car itself:

It doesn't have fog lights. I want fog lights. Actually, I"d love to have the bumper with the BIG fogs that I see on slightly newer Imprezas. IMHO, it looks pretty cool.
The dash:

Yep, it's got a lot of miles. No surprise it isn't perfect. But it runs better than my old Lumina did, which had 100k LESS miles on the clock o.o
Under the hood:

Throttle:

I post this because I'm wondering where the cruise control box is. The car has cruise. I push the button, it lights up, yay. But I can't engage, now matter what I do with the little stalk...

I've never aligned headlights before, but holy crap, this is cool:

Do they make strut bars that will fit in here? My old Rabbit had ample room for such a thing:

What to do about this shifter?

The **** won't stay straight, I don't know how to tighten it, and (I should have got a picture of this) the boot is all detached at the bottom. Do I have to... Glue it back in place?
Any idea what these two brown wires go to? Driver's seat belt buckle maybe?

I miss having power door locks =(

Need to find the plastic bit that's missing from the rear passenger side door handle here:

The gas door won't stay shut. I can close it, but any bump will pop it back open again. Any ideas?

I need to find this missing piece, too:

On the driver side... I'm sure it's contributing to some wind noise.
Need to find a speaker cover for the rear driver's side door:

Also need to figure out how to lock my hatch, and determine why my rear windshield wiper isn't working:

I can hear a relay clicking when I try to engage it, but the wiper won't move. I'm assuming electricity is getting to it, but I s'pose I'll have to figure out a way to get at it and check.
Also, as you can see, I keep valuable items in my cargo area:

Is there somewhere available one of those privacy screens so I can hide what's back there? It seems like there are notches for one, but having never owned a Subaru before, I've no clue if they came with such a thing.

Well, glad to know the screens exist. I'll have to set out in search of one.
A bit of Google searching has led me to believe it's possible to swap the RS front bumper on there. I'd love to have those big fogs

Although, any fogs at all would be nice, I s'pose.
