Also turbo lag isn't necessarily a bad thing. As long as the tune is good, lag is just an inconvinence.

It might be worth your while to spend some money to get a leak down test done on the engine and have it looked at to see how "healthy" it really is.. A little money up front now might save you a lot down the line..
Sounds good, he ran a compression test a week ago and the numbers are sound... If that helps

HKS's downpipe will work, it's just a restriction if he ever wants to go larger than a VF without running an EWG. A VF is the largest I'd run on that downpipe. The turbo timer is fine, it just doesn't benefit him. I've had one for 9 years and never actually turned it on except to warm the car up on cold days (ironically the opposite of it's intended purpose). OP is right though, that FMIC is way too big. ANY FMIC is going to be too big for a VF39, except maybe the small Injen model, which is a total waste of money.

Ditch those springs ASAP.
