So all my oil change has been with Subaru and its costing me 35-45 dollars. Where do you guys get your oil change? Do you do it yourself? If so what oil? Every 3000-4000 miles?

I have an 09 wrx and i had my first oil change done at the dealer for free. I'm gonna have them do a couple more cuz i have coupons and its freezing outside, also its on their file. When its get warm out I'll be doing them myself.
Im using regular oil for now, when i start doing them myself its gonna be Amsoil Synthetic 5w-30 and amsoil filter.
the new canadian made subaru filters are crap, dont use them.

go to walmart and get the gallon jugs and its even cheaper. Jack up passenger side of car and it should give you enough clearance to stick a drain pan underneath and remove the oil pan drain plug change plug gasket and swap out filters. Get oem filter from subaru along with gasket.

Definitely jack up the driverside if your plug is on the passenger side (which mine is).
I've been using Royal Purple (5-30 in the Winter, 10-40 in the Summer) but I'm thinking of switching to Motul or Amsoil.
I've always used OEM filters but I ran out and heard the new ones suck so I did some research and it seems you can't go wrong with a Purolator Pure One. The bonus is they're inexpensive, Sonic Yellow and textured for easy removal.
And +1 for jackstands.

If you jack up the driver side a touch, I think you'll help insure that all of the sludge in the bottom escapes completely. I also remove my Fumoto oil valve, and even though I slotted it, I still get an extra tablespoon of dirty oil to drain that way. And that last tablespoon has the most crud so I feel pretty good about it. The valve still makes it a lot easier and negates the need of the crush washer.
