Just wanna say whats up, im the newb around here i guess, but i got lots of mechanical skills. I drive a 2000 integra gsr currently and have been in the market looking for a 05 sti for a decent price.

Ive done research and updated my knowledge with the suburu clan. Only thing im weary about is the tranny problems with first and 2nd. Especially the way i drive my GSR slamming through gears, dropping the clutch and ive never had any problems after yrs of beating on it.

How come suburu doesnt make there tranny more durable to punishment considering the sti almost being a rally car out the box. Not to mention the price tag Or is the the problem in the basic tranny's with no RA gears?

Thinking i will keep the GSR to beat on since its so reliable and just get a sti as a family car. Cant wait to test drive one! but theres none where i live

welcome to the site. if you are looking to get an STI, the 6 speed in it is SOLID. they are really well built, but from what i have heard, the 5 speed WRX's are the ones to need to watch out for. good luck, and keep the GSR for a commuter and build your STI, thats what i'm doin...

 

welcome! i've heard the same thing..reg wrx's 5spd tranny's arent really well built...some people call it "Glass Tranny" because it's so fragile...but 6spd tranny in STi its practically bullet proof.
