well i dont have a subi yet but im looking to buy, ive just started doing some research but i have so many questions, i currently drive a diesel chevy thats got around 500hp and 850lbs but i want something more fun and that gets better mileage...
some of my questions are
what years have the best motor/hp/weight ratio?
does any specific year have more problems?
Is there a problem with the driveline at a specific mileage (like the trans goes out, or head gasket goes)?
With this economy i want to be able to drive the car without worrie it will blow on me or have significant problems
thanks

2007's had a fuel issue, but can be easily fixed with a tune.
They also have a different gear ratio that improves quarter mile times by removing the need to shift from 5th to 6th.
2004 had 5x100 bolt pattern, while 2005+ have 5x114.3 and upgraded interior.
Those are the only real differences between 2004-2007 GD STi's.
2008+ STI's come in the hatch form.

welcome! :-) you seem like a guy who obviously has worked on cars with the specs that youve given on your truck. A Subie is definitely for you :-) i prefer the 06-07 STI as a first choice as well.
I hear the year you chose, 06, is the one with the least amount of issues REPORTED overall. I could be wrong though :-\ I just drive a 2008 impreza 2.5i :-D I regret not getting an STI haha.
Hope you find yourself an "i" soon

(other than i got towed wrong by the city)
So teh 2006 - 2007 are the same.
They are about the same as other japanese cars. You should be able to do almost all of it yourself.
the only thing to watch out for when buying is if they were abused and just beat on.
glad to help
well i was talking with a buddy that has an 04 he built and was saying the trans in the wrx isnt nearly as stong as the sti trans and that the normal wrx's trans blows 2nd and 3rd gear....is that true?
well ive decided im going to go another direction and get a new 2010 wrx sedan...i fig its a low profile looking car thats still fast but cops wont think im a 19 year old kid haha
