welcome to the i-club fam spicy!

just like a few folks already said, come out to a few meets and see what everyone has done. you can even just browse through the members show and shine threads and take a look at some of their pics. there are some pretty badass subies out here in the bay.

Car Info: 2006 AW STi
I was in the same situation, either between Evo or STi. I like the looks of both and had the experience of driving my friend's Evo for awhile. What it came down to:

Both have an aggressive look, but the STi looks more aggressive all around.
Not a big fan of the huge wing, but STi's look good either w/ or w/out a wing.
Interior on the STi's is 100 times better than the Evo's.
Fun factor of driving either car went more towards the STi.
Knew a lot more ppl with STi's.
Knew a group of ppl that once owned an Evo and was more happy with their STi.
Love the boxer sound.

Yeah i definitly have to agree with the sound, and interior.
I was also wondering if there were any clubs for sti's/subarus, i hung out with the emperors of nor cal evo for a little while, and thought it was pretty cool that its like a private club, seperate meets, and entrance to show in the car shows, kinda like a little family, i havent heard of any clubs for subeys do you guys have any chapters or anything out this way? id definitly b interested in it after i got settled into the new ride.
oh and are there any other chicks with subarus besides gfs that go to the meets? the other meets i went to were kinda sausage fests. lol. i dont mind being the only girl but it'd be cool if sum other girls were into it too.

There's a few other girls in the Bay Area section with Subarus. There aren't really any local car clubs (besides this site's Bay Area section, BAIC) that's totally dedicated to Subarus, at least to my knowledge. There's a lot of local shops and random people in the Bay that'll help you with your car (whether you're doing the installations yourself or requiring additional assistance).

I would shop for the car that you ant rather than the car that has the bigger tuner crowd.

But look at me now, I ended up getting neither. I drive a WRX, and 03 at that. I'm looking to buy an R32 next.
.... same situation i went thru ....... was looking at both but then settled for 03 Bugeye .... and love it
Welcome to the i-club Danielle ....... good luck finding the right car!!

Welcome.

I have driven both the STi and Evo. I would say that looks alone the STi is a much better looking car depending on which year you buy 04-05, 06-07, 08. I could be wrong on this but I'm pretty sure that evos can put out more hp with bolt ons than can subys. Community wise, I would say that i-club and the smaller chapters that make up i-club are going to be stronger in numbers and turn-out than the evo group, just my .02.

I will say that I have met a group of guys that go to a lot of auto x events who are all from the norcalevo forums who are a very close group and very friendly.

A lot of ppl have mentioned that the interior in the STi is better than the evo. I would say the opposite. I think the evo's interior is much better. Most ppl who I have spoken with say the STi interior looks nicer but the seats are not as comfortable and don't hold you as well during auto x or track days etc. like the evo's recaro seats.

Just my .02

well it is the car I want, Ive narrowed it down from alot of choices and now its between the sti or evo, I don't HAVE to have the bigger tuner crowd I just enjoy being active in the tuner community and just wanted to see if there were any ppl in my area to meet up with and get good advice on the pick. But hopefully I'll meet sum of u soon

i had a 300whp+ evo 9 and now a 2 door impreza with stg. 2 05 STi motor and 6spd.

the low end torque on the subbie makes it much more pleasant to drive around town, but the Evo pulls harder up top (bigger factory turbo)

if you plan on staying relatively stock power wise the STi's a better car IMO, but if you are power hungry (like me) the 4g63 is stupid easy to make big power.

Do not swap. Go directly to jail. Do not pass "Go." Do not collect $200. Danielle, it isn't worth swapping a newer engine into an older body. Not cost-effective. You can find a used '04 STi for as little as $17k. Maybe even less now.

Welcome to I-club. It would also be hard for me to choose between the Evo RS and a STI, they are fast, have awd and are a very fun car to drive. I wish you the best in you choice.
