New to the forum, some questions about wrx's!
I am looking into buying an old (04'-07') wrx or sti. Which would be better? Insurance wise? Can I make a wrx as fast as a sti? And if so , how? Thanks, would it be better to just save for a sti? Thanks guys

How old are you?
Does it snow where you live?
Are you married?
Are you a student?
Do you have a clean record?
How would you define "fast"?
How would you define "better"?

16, yes-snow on the ground as we Speak, no married, yes student, yes clean record, i define better as in everything, interior, exterior, hp, trans, performance, everything. I thought about doing a wrx project car but I just read that wrx's arnt built to be as strong as an sti? Is this true? I really want an sti, I've drove them before and I love them, but not for the price. If getting a wrx and modding it over time is cheaper then I'll do that, but if it's not possible to get sti performance then I'll wait and save for an sti. Also I heard insurance is cheaper for an sti because it's categorized as a luxury car? Is this true? Thanks again

You can make a wrx way faster than a stock or Modded sti. Right now I have stock everything except fuel pump, injectors, e85, sti tmic(top mount intercooler), vf34(little bit bigger turbo), TBE, tune. Makes 330whp 315 wtq.
With the wrx you get lower insurance for sure, especially at your age.

Alright, maybe I'll get an wrx now and mod it and In a couple years I'll upgrade (: thanks guys! Last question, what horsepower does a stock 2006 wrx have? And does it have a turbo?
It's QQ thankyouverymuch

~202 WHP. Yes.
A STi Will have about 240 WHP, it is very easy to make that much power and more on a WRX.

Most people buy WRX's because they could not afford a STI. If you can afford the STI get it. The biggest suck about buying a WRX is the 5speed trans. Yes you can get same power as STI but those same mods on a STI will be that must faster. Honestly it comes down to what you can afford, what your goals are with the car! Either way be careful on what you buy and check it out, or have a local shop check car out and have compression test done!

I bought a WRX because I liked the interior better, the insurance is much cheaper, and I didn't feel like spending extra money for some squeeky Brembo brakes. >.<
that being said... if you have the money, an STI is a much better platform to start with. I have yet to find an STI with 11k miles on it for anything less than 10k more than what I payed for my car.....
Personal preference though.
The biggest gap is in the pre-06 WRXs because of the 2.0 platform as opposed to 06+ when they switched over to the 2.5 across the board.
Just do a bit of research and check different cars out. Find what you like the best and go for it.

[QUOTE=sigma pi;2989854]No I could afford the STI but they didnt have it in 03
That's true but the question was not about 03WRX's....... Anyone who says they would rather have WRX over STI is nuts. That's like saying you rather have regular corvette over ZR1! Most people it is money, Sigma I guess your happy with your WRX, but I am sure you would not mine owning a STI

Also I know you guys army going to give me a straight answer (: but which is better, 2006 wrx tr, or 2004 wrx. I mean better as in interior and any differences in engines?
One last question, I'm trying to get one under 18k, there's a couple wrx's for sale locally (2002's-2006's) so what should I look for mileage wise? There's some with 100k miles and some with 60k. I'm not dumb I know 60k is better between those two, but I'm asking if subarus last awhile, and if I get one with higher miles (90k) , how long would it last? Thanks

when shopping around: You can get the WRX with an auto tranny, the sti only came in manual. Manuals are fun, but if you get one used, it may be a $1000 fix right after purchase to get clutch replaced.
the wrx came with 16" wheels and smaller brakes then the STi. It's cheaper on brake pads and tires. if you live in snow you'd prob want to get a set of snow tires.
make sure to listen for rod knock. if it's been modded you def want to look out for it.
a wagon would prob be more useful for daily life and it's cheaper to insure.
