Midwest Dealership Experiences **Prospective Buyer**
Well I've been going back and forth over the Evolution-STi debate for nearly a month. The Evolution RS really had my attention but Mitsubishi customer service horror stories have steered me away. So the choice being settled now I have to actually shop! I'll likely buy early/mid June. Does anyone have feedback about dealerships? I'm located in Milwaukee Wisconsin but am not opposed to travelling for a purchase. I'll likely have to become friendly with a local dealership for service.
Secondly, if no one minds, what are some of the going rates for 2004 STi's in the area? I've heard of them being purchased for $29,000 in Wisconsin. The 2005 really appeals to me but the 04/05 price diffferential doesn't add up for me. I'd rather have an 04 with a nice aftermarket stereo system.

I bought my car from geralds in naperville illinois, I would reccomend them again in a heartbeat. The sales person that I used there left, but I have also dealt with a sales person that has the last name MOX there, he's a pretty good guy as well. Desk is to the far right when you walk in the door.
You should check out the dealer review forum over on www.nasioc.com.
One note, avoid SOS. You'll see too many people have had problems with them.

I JUST got my 04 STi from Dahl Subaru in LaCrosse. They did a great job of getting to a price that I was happy with, talk to Chad if you call them. But, I think that I grabbed their last one. I'm from Chicago, and most of the dealerships around me that I talked and emailed to seemed a little on their high horse about the car and not willing to negotiate with the price much. This is what ultimately lead me to purchase from an out of state dealer. But the ride home was a blast on the back roads, even keeping the beast under 4K RPMs. Good luck and you will LOVE this car!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the help. The past two weeks I've been looking a little closer at the Infiniti G35 coupe. The performance is sufficient and the style is top notch but I was heavily turned off when I read it suffers from Nissan's standard paint problems. I understand most WRXs have paint problems but Nissan's paint is notoriously fragile. So here I am, back to the STi. I think it's fate now!
supposedly subarus have pretty bad problems with chipping and cheap paint as well, I have 10K miles and I haven't really seen any paint problems other than what I have caused.
Did you drive a Z? that's what I was originally planning on getting, but I opted for the wrx and having more cash in my pocket to blow on other things. They're awesome to drive, the cockpit is awesome. You drive an evo as well?

It seems that many Japanese manufacturers have paint chip problems these days. Some are extremely fragile such as Nissan's. Are the WRX's problem spots body paint such as the hood or is it specific to the bumper? Oddly I don't read much about paint chip problems on American cars other than the Neon.
Unfortunately I have not had time to test a Z or an Evo yet. But I was able to test drive a 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo, impressive to say the least.

Wow...Are you also in the market for a 911 turbo? hehehe that would be nice...
So is there a specific problem with the paint on subarus because my bumper paint is peeling off around the wheel well on the front bumper. Also there is a spot on the top of the bumper that bubbled up and has now peeled off and is getting bigger...Is this something that the car could be taken to subaru of america over? I just figured I would have to get it fixed myself but if it is a known problem then I would think subaru may do something about it. There is no way the paint should be chipping and peeling after 60000 miles.....

Well gang school is winding down and I'm ready to seriously shop. Any suggestions on how to nab a good deal? What can I expect for prices on 05's since 04's seem more or less cleaned out? Think MSRP is fair on an 05 or should I expect to pay significantly more? I'm not too picky on options, in fact a stripper STi would work just fine for my taste. I've heard people swear by using the web like Automall or dealer internet sales departments over the traditional bargaining methods. I'm trying not to be a cupcake for the dealers. Feedback?
Got my 03 WRX from Williams Auto in Lansing, MI. Small dealer, good customer relations, small (1 STi a month). The Subie dealer in Grand Rapids, MI BLOWS. DO NOT GO TO THEM! I ended up flying out to PA to pick up my STi. Glanzman Subaru offered me $1500 off the STi before any negotions (in 03 for 04 STi). Best dealer I have delt with in buying a Subaru. Good luck with your decison.
