Just two hours ago I was cruising down Rt.50 headed to Tower Records in Fairfax and I spotted a plain jane sedan that just didn't 'feel right'. As it turns out my instincts/hunch were dead on.

The car was an unmarked cruiser with a standard clothed cop (white male) inside. Nothing unusual there though as we see them trick CHiPs everywhere.

What was unusual was that the car was not the standard faire Crown Vic or Grand Marquis. It was a current body style (looked brand new!) Dodge Intrepid sedan in either black or dk. blue and with stock rims but slightly taller tires (couldn't tell which brand or size as it was too dark). The same make & model as recently in use by the DC police.

The cop was crusing in the far left lane at just over the speed limit and I came up on him from the center lane in front of Pohanka Lexus on 50. I noticed that no one would pass him and that a Dodge pickup directly in front of me grabbed his brakes suddenly for no apparent reason as their was no one infront of him. So I slipped right and pulled forward slowly to inspect the car and see what the heck was going on.

The car looks stock except for the following cues:
* Dark tinted rear & side passenger glass;
* Medium sized repeater antenna mounted to the center of the roof;
* Small sized repeater antenna mounted to the leading edge of the trunk lid;
* Large sized whip antenna mounted at the trailing edge of the trunk lid;
* Slightly taller than normal tires (looked to be 60 or 65 series);
* Super shiny wash & wax job seemingly devoid of all dirt!

This car looked to be very civilian if it weren't for the half tint job (no regular person is going to pay for a tint that covers only the rear most windows), the multiple antennas (I thought it might be a HAM radio operator at first), and the overly tall tires. The unit has a standard VA plate which is "XZT-6848".

I followed along with the cop through five lights and stayed just below the 40mph limit via cruise control. At a redlight we lined up evenly and I just stared at the car and dude tryign to scan for any other tell tale cues (side flashers, a county police door sticker, anything). This car was done up real well.
I have to say the biggest give away other than the antennas was that the car was super squeaky clean & shiny with not a door ding or scratch on a black/dark blue car.

This is a regular run of the mill family man sedan. I'm a family man and I'll be damned if I spend a whole weekend detailing the crud out the family grocery getter & baby barfmobile. Plus, it only takes one trip to the mobile or mommies play group to pick-up a door ding or bumper rub. Things that normal people and cars pickup through their travels. My gut told me immediately; 'That mothersucka is Five-O'!

After the light the driver knew I had spotted him and he looked over at me, which showed his rank badges that were attached to his collar as I just cooly stared back. He took off fast from the light on the green and at the next block turned right into the Fairfax police sub-station & firestation. I kept on going and stopped at Tower Records to immediately jot down the cars plate and pick up some Puccini & Purcell for 'BabyJanq' who at 7mos seems to love opera. She's daddy's girl for sure.

BTW, the headlights were normal strength, not the super brights that cops cars tend to have. If this unit were behind you it would be virtually impossible to tell the car contained a cop.

So keep an eagle eye out for this and other possible Dodge products that might be cruising in your 'hood. Whats next, a Hyundai Sonata cruiser? An EVO 'interceptor'?!

Thanks for the heads up. I saw a Dodge Ram while at court yesterday with lights hidden inside the grill. Other than that it was pretty stock. Fairfax County has always been sneaky with that kind of things. A friend of mine claims he saw someone pulled over by an Integra GSR...but I find that hard to believe.

Please posts specifics like make, model, year, color and any identifying information/items to look out for as well as the location you saw the vehicle working.

There must be a million Blazers & Pontiacs on the road.
And a bazillion Civics of varying age & style on the road too. We can't be looking at every Civic and thinking its a plain clothes roller.

Any specific information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

saw a brand new black mustang cop car once on 66 east

 

Keep your eye out for this weird redish purple one too. I hear they also have a "hooked up" civic they took from some kid. Of course we have all seen the camaros and the explorers. It is cause they opened up that freggin cop department by westfields. We don't need this many cops.

 

If you ever roll up to baltimore they have 3 new style mustang gts. One white, one red, and one that weird mineral color. The cop I saw in the mineral one was just cruising with everyone at 8mph and he didn't pull anyone over. but the red and white ones were jerks.

 

oh they roll on 95 I saw red and white smoke on north bound, and mineral smoke on south
