iirc tehcnically they cant do that unless asked to by the property manager / owner or an agent thereof, hence why parkinglot stop signs mean nothing.

as long as your nto a dick about it cops usally dont care, ''im sorry officer, we are just exorcising our first amendmant rights to free assembly on private property. if you witnessed me in some kind of moving violation i would be happy to cooperate."

then he just pulls you over when you leave. or call in a bomb threat before you go so he has to take off... always a good call

actually i think this changed post-9/11. state and federal officers are allowed to check identification on any 'suspicious' persons.... duno if that extends to local PDs

read up on the Hiibel case, it may change this

Hope to see all you guys there. I guess just try to find parking around that area. I wonder if it'll be okay if we park in between those mechanic shops. Hmmm... yeah...

The law was there pre 9/11, it was just never enforced.

that depends on the interpretation. officers are within their rights to ask for identification while in the course of an investigation. the hiibel case revolved around weather or not probable cause or suspicion was needed to demand identification durring an investigation and wether or not the officers had cause.

if a cop pulls you over it is reasonable for him to ask for identification. if there is a murder in your neighborhood and a cop sees you out walking and you match the description it is reasonable for him to ask for identification.

the question boils down to wether or not glamor mods (stickers, wheels, ect) constitute reasonable suspicion. a car with really loud exhaust provides such by being loud, its reasonable for the officer to beleive that more than just the cans have been modified. A car however constitutes private property under Lucas v South Carolina Coastal Commission and if a vehicle is not moving abd has no clearly visible evidence of illegal modification there is no reasonable grounds to demand identification.

if the cop beds over and sees that more than just the cans have been changed he can demand identification and has cause to search but only if it can be presumed the car was rescently/is currently/will soon be used in an illegal fashing (driving with no cats, ect)

bottom line is it is a gray area and if i got nailed for something while i was parked and standing near my car id find a hotshot lawyer that wants to make a name for himself and will thus work pro-bono.... but then again i have allot of time on my hands.

if i a cop asked me to pop my hood or identify myself while i wasnt clearly in violation of a statute i was just say "ipse dixit" with is latin legal **** for an unsupported assertation of guilt that lacks logic or arguement

Keep it simple; either park at Redrum or across the street at NAPA Auto Parts.
Yeah. You are probably right. Just find parking around that area, and spend a few extra minutes making sure you are parked legally.
