Golden West 2007 June 3
For those that might want to try a time/speed/distance car rally, San Francisco Region of the SCCA will be presenting an event on Sunday, June 3 starting at 7:00 a.m.
This year its all on paved roads between Livermore and Sacramento.
The start location will be the Holiday Inn Express on Constitution (just North on the Airway Blvd. exit off of Hwy 580) in Livermore, California.
Entry fee is $75.00 per car, and there must be 2 participants in each car.
Release waivers must be signed, and participants must be of legal age to sign the release (18 years or older).
Motor Vehicle Laws will always be obeyed - this is a test of driver and navigator working together to maintain the correct speeds while following a prescribed route. All cars must be street legal and pass a self performed tech inspection. This is NOT a race, but rather a tour where assigned speeds are given for the teams to try and maintain.
The event will finish in Sacramento before 5:00 p.m.
For those new to the sport, I would suggest that they bring a calculator and lots of paper and pencils, along with a good digital watch (or stopwatch) and the ability to have a good time.
This event is also a Porsche Club event, and the Miata club has also gotten an invitation so let's get some Subarus out there to challenge those other car teams for the trophies.
Some of the top Nationally ranked teams will be there, so you can see how you measure up to the best teams in the Country.
If you are thinking about attending, please E Mail me so that enough materials can be prepared.
Feel free to send me an E-Mail if you have any questions

Oh and we can use volunteer checkpoint workers both for Saturday's tour and Sunday's course Rally-
(trust me on this one- you probably wouldn't have fun competing in a course rally, unless getting lost and losing the event is your idea of fun)

Just a matter of what you prefer to do.
"***** out" (until the next cone) in a parking lot for a total of about 4 minutes, about $10/minute.
or challenging roads and interesting scenery for 8 Hours,
closer to about $0.15 per minute.

TSD rallys are definitely a fun day out. I definitely prefer them to autoXs because of the seat time and you get to interact with a co-driver. As Pete pointed out, the cost/seat time equation is pretty good for a TSD rally and let me tell you, when you get a direction wrong on a TSD "***** out" comes into play very quickly

I pre-checked the Sunday route with Pete a few weeks ago. It is a fun, challenging drive with twisty roads and beautiful scenery. The finish location is a car museum that I really enjoyed looking around.
If I didn't have family stuff happening Sunday I'd be out there competing!
BTW Pete, confirmed with Stu that I'll work on Saturday.
