That rocked
SO my wife and I dorve the whole route with Pete this weekend. It was awesome!
The surfaces were quite varied and really gave us a good chance to improve our dirt driving. The times were set so you were not killing yourself to try and make the next check point but there was enough space between them that if you wanted to hang it out through some sweet curves you could.
It wasn't too bad on the car either and ground clearance was not a problem. Pete even ran the whole thing in a stock lancer.
My wife and I switched diving and navigating and enjoyed both. The directions were easy to follow and we didn't get lost once which is amazing because she is directionally challanged
I'll post a couple photos and we have video if any wants it emailed to them or has a place to host it.
This is going to be an great rally.
Later,
John

If the roads were to be closed, it would be a performance rally and you would need to have a roll cage.
This is a RoadRally, that means speeds required for on-time arrival must be less than the speed limit and possible oncoming traffic is something everyone needs to be prepared for.
Don't worry, it will still be fun.

Last chance to sign up!
Registration closes Thursday, this is the one chance you all have to drive in a gravel rally in CA this year.

I hope you have a very sucessful rally. I'm afraid I don't have the time off, or a navigator, or tires,or the dirt experience. Best of luck and I hope to see you on some other one. Bill

In case anyone else is up against any of Bill's reasons for not entering;
time off: You can feasibly leave the Bay area in the morning Saturday, run the event and be home Sunday night in time for the Simpsons at 8, (well, north bay anyway......)
navigator: I know of at least one and possibly more experienced navigators (one who was on the winning Alcan team in 2000) who are looking for a driver and car to hook up with, PM me if you are in that situation.
tires; OK that might be a reasonable excuse for some of you, but an old set of RE92's should be fine for this event, just be sure to bring a full sized spare too.
and as for dirt experience, the format is written around "reasonable and prudent" speeds, so its a great chance to gain dirt experience over 200 miles of just about every unpaved surface you can imagine- from moon-dust like volcanic ash to pine needle covered hardpack.
We are starting to see a flurry of last minute entries, don't wait too long, we might actually fill the grid.

300 miles from Berkeley, I've made it in 4 hours but if you're heading up Friday evening, it might be as much as 6-7 hours- taking 2-3 just to get to Fairfield.
