Is there a Supercharger available
Is there a Supercharger available for the 2.5 motor? I'm considering my options between TC and SC. I have an auto MY01 L sedan. As yet I have no performance mods and I would like to go FI. I would also like to keep my car a sleeper (stock wheels, stock exterior, near stock ride height). Superchargers seem to fit my goal for low end torque and immediate power. Are there any that are easily fitted to a 2.5?

I can't remember where I saw it, but there IS a supercharger available for a 2.5 Legacy. I, too, wanted one. And still do. But the one I found was a) on a website with many broken links (red flag!) and b) involved cutting a HOLE in the hood to clear the pulley. It's ok, though, because they give you a pretty lexan bubble to go over it
I'd really rather not do that to my 2002 GT. So the search goes on, or the wait for the turbo Legacy...
Good luck!

I haven't found anything, but I would like to know why you would choose a supercharger over a turbo charger. I would think since our motors already offer an awsome low-end torque range a turbo charger would be best to make up for the lack of high-end torque. I would be really interested why you choose the SC. I am always looking to learn and since I am new to the Legacy maybe you could enlighten me.

The only supercharger I ever found advertised was by a company called Rimmer Engineering. They had two systems for the Legacy, one that mounted on top of the engine and required cutting a hole to clear the pulley, and one they called a "Sidewinder" that mounted over where the stock air filter is. I've been back to the site since (sorry, don't remember the address) and they don't have the Suby system listed. Perhaps they didn't sell as well as they had hoped.
As for turbos, on page 186 of this month's Sport Compact Car they list two different companies selling turbo kits for the 2.5 powered Scooby-Doos. I, personally, want the stage four twin turbo kit they show! Woof!

yes there will be a supercharger available quite exciting really
go read about it at www.rs25.com/forums in the forced induction section!

That thread is 64 pages long. I only read the last page and it sounds like they have a working SC now. The only problem they seem to have encountered was the fuel cut-off at 6250 and the engine going to 6500 w/o fuel, therefore blowing the motor.
To LGT: The main reason I would like a supercharger is that the instant power of the supercharger as opposed to the lag of a turbo. I haven't necessarily chosen a supercharger over a turbo, I was just toying with the possibility of supercharging a motor. My inspiration was a race I witnessed between an SC Prelude (H22 w/ a comptech) and a WRX. They started rolling at 20, the prelude simply punched it (he had an auto) and left the WRX behind. I don't have the funds to get either a turbo or a supercharger at the moment, maybe in a year or so but not right now. Just scoping out the possibilities and debating the options right now.

The reason -I- want a supercharger...someday....is also that immediate response. I know the 2.5 is pretty good right now, but for around town driving you can always use more. Also, I don't like the idea of winding up the engine too high. I understand I might not be on the right board to say that
but I like my engines to last a good long time...
