Legacy 1994 2.0 heater core -

Thermostat failed causing overheating which I think in turn caused a leak in the heater core. It leaks into the passenger compartment. What needs to be removed to get to it and repair or replace it?

It's not an easy or quick job, unfortunately. To get to the heater core the entire HVAC box has to be removed, it's a lot of labor.
