Engine Blew!!??

Well, I ended 2004 with not only a bang but also a cloud of black smoke. I was driving over to the local Subaru dealership last friday and I guess my '98 GT Wagon thought she was in danger of getting traded, because all of a sudden there was a loud bang and black smoke covered the highway behind me. So now I need to either rebuild the engine or put a new one in. It only had 110,00 miles but had been burning oil. The thing that killed it, though, was the missing oil plug! I think I was sabotaged.
Anyways, I need some help and advice. Here's what I'm looking at as possibilities: straight rebuild, 2.2 replacement for reliablilty (Though I'd have to give the car to my wife) , JDM Replacement, or a Turbo motor if it will fit.
Anyone have an experience/advice that could help me?
Thanks!

Oil Change
Ah, that would be me. Yes, I think that for the first time in 16 years of changing my own oil, I screwed up. I know I put it back on tight, I put on a new washer, and it went for a week before it disapeared, but I probably crossthreaded it and it came loose.
See gruppe-s or subaru specialists in the vedors forum maybe they can help or check out nasioc.com in thier vendor forum. There are a few venders selling complete swaps(ie. engine, ecu, harness). Or if your just looking for a short block a new 2.2L can be had for around $2000, just figure on $1600 more for labor.
